JFK or Newark

Our ship arrives at the Manhattan pier on a Sunday morning. Are we better off flying out of JFK or Newark, or does it make any difference?

The ship is scheduled to dock at 8:00 with debarkation from 8:30. I don't know yet what the debarkation process will be. What would be the earliest flight we should look at out of JFK or Newark?

Thanks.

The closest airport is LGA, but if that is out of the question due to lack of flights or high airfare, then all other things being equal it doesn't matter all that much whether you fly out of EWR or JFK. EWR is closer to the port, but can be a bit more expensive to get to by taxi or car service because of tolls and the fact that you're crossing state lines.

I'd book a flight that leaves no earlier than 12:30. You can make an earlier flight if everything goes perfectly, but there can be delays in docking, clearance of the ship for disembarkation, traffic, etc. any one of which could easily cause you to miss an earlier flight.
