suetown Posted March 31, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 31, 2016 Are jeans acceptable? When you board can I wear jeans or do you need to dress up more? How about in the buffet, can you dress down and save the posh dresses for the formal dining areas ?
Rare Keith1010 Posted March 31, 2016 #2 Share Posted March 31, 2016 Suetown, you can wear jeans wench you board. No need to dress up more. The only time there is really a dress code is in the evening and for those questions I would post them on the cruise line board for the ship you will be on. Schoifmom Posted March 31, 2016 #3 Share Posted March 31, 2016 Are jeans acceptable? When you board can I wear jeans or do you need to dress up more? How about in the buffet, can you dress down and save the posh dresses for the formal dining areas ? It really depends on the cruise line. If it is a "mainstream" cruise line (Carnival, RCCL, NCL, etc), jeans are fine. The more upscale the cruiseline, the more upscale the dress ... B35 Posted March 31, 2016 #4 Share Posted March 31, 2016 (edited) Are jeans acceptable? When you board can I wear jeans or do you need to dress up more? How about in the buffet, can you dress down and save the posh dresses for the formal dining areas ? It depends on what cruise company but all the main companies (Ncl, Royal Caribbean etc) you can wear anything you like. I've gone through whole cruises and hardly changed out of sweat pants and jeans. You can wear anything in the buffet as long as youre not dripping wet in swimming trunks after crawling out of the pool(although I've even seen this) . Cruises in the main can be as formal or as informal as you like and you'll generally see a whole range of dressing at any one time. paul929207 Posted March 31, 2016 #5 Share Posted March 31, 2016 I would ask this in the section for the cruise line you will be sailing. Rules vary between lines.
GUT2407 Posted March 31, 2016 #6 Share Posted March 31, 2016 As others have said it can vary by line.
Rare Keith1010 Posted March 31, 2016 #7 Share Posted March 31, 2016 And rules do vary by cruise line. Keith
cb at sea Posted March 31, 2016 #8 Share Posted March 31, 2016 The mainstream lines ALL have no problem with jeans. I find them not appropriate for summer wear....I never wear jeans in the summer....but they are simply denim pants....they're fine.
Rare Keith1010 Posted March 31, 2016 #9 Share Posted March 31, 2016 There are no cruise lines that I am aware of that care if you board the ship in blue jeans. Keith
wowzz Posted March 31, 2016 #10 Share Posted March 31, 2016 If you are cruising in the Caribbean, why would you even want to wear jeans? Where are you cruising, when, and on what ship?

ithaca gal Posted April 1, 2016 #13 Share Posted April 1, 2016 If you are cruising in the Caribbean, why would you even want to wear jeans? Where are you cruising, when, and on what ship? On more than one occasion recently, it is been so chilly on the first day or two of our cruise that I was happily wearing my jeans and a top. And less we are guaranteed weather in the 80s every day, I will always bring on a pair of jeans.
suetown Posted April 1, 2016 Author #14 Share Posted April 1, 2016 Thank you for your replies - it's a Med cruise on Royal Caribbean - Capt BJ - does that count as a cheap cruise? Oh and my jeans aren't cheap [emoji2]
Rare Keith1010 Posted April 1, 2016 #15 Share Posted April 1, 2016 LOL. You will be fine. I would post this on the RCI Board in terms of evening attire. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=-1&f=83 Again jeans are fine on embarkation day on this ship and any other cruise line we have sailed. Enjoy the cruise. Keith

Cruisin'Christine Posted April 1, 2016 #18 Share Posted April 1, 2016 You can absolutely wear jeans! Just be as comfortable as possible for check-in. I typically wear capris, if leaving from a warm-weather destination. On the cruise itself, jeans can be worn almost anywhere, particularly during the day, at the buffet, and on excursions. Jeans are not preferred in the main dining room, although you see the occasional person wearing them. On the daily cruise calendar, it will list the dress code for the evening, and you will typically have two formal nights.
