LilLeebird Posted April 3, 2016 #1 Share Posted April 3, 2016 I know it's at the captain's discretion, but for you previous Breakaway cruisers, which side of the ship faced the dock while in port? Just trying to see if there is a preferred side the captain usually selects.
njhorseman Posted April 3, 2016 #2 Share Posted April 3, 2016 It's not simply the captain's discretion. There can be wind and tide issues that come in to play. Also lifeboat testing schedules and maintenance requirements affect how the ship docks. It docks port side to the pier more than starboard, but there's absolutely no way to predict in advance how your ship will dock. I've even seen a couple of ships reverse sides during their stay, probably because conditions when they first docked didn't permit the ship to dock on the preferred side
Sea Legs Posted April 6, 2016 #3 Share Posted April 6, 2016 Interesting fact about it reversing sides while in port. Thanks for the info.
martinchem Posted April 6, 2016 #4 Share Posted April 6, 2016 In four cruises to Bermuda we have docked three times port to port.
