Latest you can stay on the ship?

Sailing out of Galveston and my flight is at 8pm after disembarkment! How long does disembarkment take? What time do I have to be off the ship ? Itinerary says we get back to port at 8am.

 

Any suggestions on what to do in Galveston before heading back to the airport? Or is there anything to do around houston hobby or somewhere in the middle ?

You usually need to be out of your room by 8:30am and off the ship no later than 10:00am. I would look into getting a "day-room" at a hotel near the port or airport. I had the same situation as you on my first cruise out of Ft Lauderdale, flight home wasn't until 8pm so I booked a dayroom out by the airport. It was nice to be able to spend the day relaxing at the hotel pool, and having a room to take a nap in and shower before heading to the airport.

When we sailed Magic out of Galveston in April 2014, we also had a late flight (We had only two flight choices-10:30 AM and 5:00 PM.) from HOU to BOS. We vacated our cabin before 8:30 then we enjoyed a couple of hours in the sun on Lido. We stayed until 10:30, when the cruise director announced, "Will the last 118 of you please get off the ship!"

 

Leaving the ship took minutes. We retrieved our bags and went to customs. Here is where having a passport really paid off: there were 20 of us in the passport line, there were over 300 people in the birth certificate line, many of them having been there for over an hour.

 

We had pre booked the Carnival shuttle back to HOU, which was a little over an hour ride. We had quite a few hours to relax, aka be bored :eek:, while waiting for our flight to board.

 

Hopefully someone can give you info about what to do in Houston or near HOU.

Anyone known how long customs takes? Trying to time catching the galveston express after the cruise.

Suggestion for "somewhere in the middle": NASA/Johnson Space Center, which is pretty much directly on the route from Galveston to Hobby Airport, so you wouldn't really be going out of your way. Fascinating place if you've never been there!

I second the Houston Space Center. It is awesome and a destination in itself. Also it is between Galveston and Houston.
