Rare 4cats4me Posted May 8, 2016 #27 Share Posted May 8, 2016 If OP was so displeased before the ship set sail, the OP was still free to disembark the ship so as to avoid even worse potential service. Would have hated to see how OP would react to a 2 hour delay, as we had on a recent trip Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

capriccio Posted May 8, 2016 #30 Share Posted May 8, 2016 I THINK that they mean officers aren't mingling often enough during the cruise in general. Except they said "just boarded the Ruby Princess." That's what makes no sense to me.

Perhaps people from that part of the world are more obsessive about every minute of their day going to schedule - better not suggest an Aussie cruise to her. ;) :p  :D We never even notice if the muster drill is running late or not. We try to get to the muster station early, order a drink, and either chat with other people or read our Kindles until they broadcast the signal. We usually are the ones apologising lol. I don't think people from Vancouver or BC are usually like this...just ask our Princess ambassador Vickie who posts a lot. She is such a sweetie and she is from BC. The above person sounds like they really, really need this cruise as they are totally stressed out haha. Please don't judge us Canadians with this one, thank you very much!!
alwalaska Posted May 8, 2016 #35 Share Posted May 8, 2016 I hate to keep this thread at the top, but I have a Princess muster question, so I thought it kind of fit here. How does the Island Princess handle muster since the refit? Only about 25% of her passengers fit in the theater.

Jasperdo Posted May 8, 2016 #38 Share Posted May 8, 2016 I don't normally post to threads like this, but I just had to after reading some of the OP's previous posts. Just 2 days ago on the Roll Call she wrote: "A lovely surprise call first thing this morning It was Princess offering us a free upgrade to a family suite." And now she's complaining about how lousy Princess is because of a 20 minute delay in starting the muster drill. I just don't understand some people. Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted May 8, 2016 #39 Share Posted May 8, 2016 (edited) I hate to keep this thread at the top, but I have a Princess muster question, so I thought it kind of fit here. How does the Island Princess handle muster since the refit? Only about 25% of her passengers fit in the theater. Essentially Princess allocates a space, often a theatre or bar area, on the promenade deck because that is where you would board your lifeboat in any emergency that requires abandoning ship. Be aware that not every emergency requires the ship to be abandoned, in some cases they may just want all passengers in a known are of the ship just in case. The area you are allocated to depends on your cabin location on the ship. Forward and you'd be in the theatre, mid-forward in the Wheelhouse Bar, midships would probably be Crooners, mid-aft Sabatinis and aft in the Bayou, assuming there are five muster stations. If they only have four muster stations then they might not use Crooners. They spread the passengers right throughout the ship though. Each location has emergency exits on to the promenade deck. On Golden we were in a midships cabin and our muster station was the Explorers Bar. We watched the crew doing a drill on one of the port days that we didn't go ashore. It was very interesting to see how it all worked with the lifeboats. Edited May 8, 2016 by OzKiwiJJ
Putterdude Posted May 8, 2016 #40 Share Posted May 8, 2016 I suspect the delay was a result of the annual repositioning circus that goes on each May in Vancouver. Today the Ruby and the New Amsterdam were in port and that wouldn't ordinarily be a problem ..... other the fact it is May. I must say that BC Happy Girl is a long time poster on Vancouver threads and her post today is a bit out of character.

My understanding is that on Princess, they are all inside in places that have at least some seats. They use lounges, etc.
Nanaoften Posted May 8, 2016 #42 Share Posted May 8, 2016 Sorry your cruise started off on the wrong foot... Hope it got better... I learned a long tome ago that i am often going to have to wait.. Because of some inconvenience or another so i always bring a book, or my iPad or crocheting... Then I don't have to whine about waiting... I wouldn't even mind muster if i was on a cruise right now! Pam in CA Posted May 8, 2016 #47 Share Posted May 8, 2016 (edited) I've been quite a few cruises on a couple of other lines that had Muster out on deck, in the pouring rain or sweltering heat where you stood as cabin #'s were read off. As more passengers came, you were pushed back against the side of the ship which was fortunate because otherwise, you might faint or collapse. The PA systems were lousy and you had to wait until all passengers were there and checked off. I've seen people who needed medical assistance due to the conditions. And someone is complaining about being inside in the A/C and out of the weather for a few extra minutes. That makes Princess totally inconsiderate? They must not have gotten the message that you needed Muster to start NOW no matter what. Edited May 8, 2016 by Pam in CA

An extra 20 minutes to order a cocktail and start unwinding would not be considered much of a hardship. You might need to look elsewhere for sympathy on this one ;)
By The Bay Posted May 8, 2016 #49 Share Posted May 8, 2016 Going by the posters public profile, they are not first time cruisers and therefore this would not have been the first time a muster on another cruise did not start on-time. I cannot believe that this post is for real. This is an example of a 1st world problem. It must be a bait, and it is working. I am sure they are sitting back with their wine and cheese having a good old chuckle.:( In the 20+ cruises I have done, none have started at the advertised time. This is mainly caused by the late arrival of passengers, usually holding a drink in their hand.;)
