Rare little britain Posted May 11, 2016 #4 Share Posted May 11, 2016 (edited) West Quay shopping centre has a Costa and the usual run of stuff. Why not stop a little outside of town instead? Edited May 11, 2016 by little britain

sky0000547 Posted May 11, 2016 #6 Share Posted May 11, 2016 There is a West Quay Retail Park directly across from the pier. There is a McDonald's and Starbucks. On a Saturday, the IKEA restaurant opens at 9am which will serve breakfast.

cymru cruiser Posted May 12, 2016 #12 Share Posted May 12, 2016 In addition to the idea, McDonald's and various eateries in west quay there's also a frankie and bennys in the outside complex next to west quay. Situated between the Novotel and IKEA. You could also go into the Novotel or grand harbour or any other hotel registered as 3 star or higher must offer breakfasts to non residents. hancogran Posted May 12, 2016 #13 Share Posted May 12, 2016 Last June before sailing back to NY from Southampton, we had some time to kill so we ended up at IKEA and had breakfast there. It's cafeteria style and also, if you've got an IKEA Family card, your coffee or tea is free. I didn't know this till I saw the sign hanging up. It was a pretty cheap breakfast and the restaurant was huge so no problem with seating! Have a great cruise. :)
Alohaaloha Posted May 12, 2016 #14 Share Posted May 12, 2016 Novotel breakfast is very good. Buffet style with plenty of choices both hot and cold, good service, nice restaurant. Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app
vickiw0318 Posted May 12, 2016 #15 Share Posted May 12, 2016 On the day of our cruise from Southampton, my daughter and I walked from the Premier Inn (where we stayed overnight) into the old city, walked around and ended up at a Costa for some tasty muffins. When we docked and had time for our National Express bus, we walked with our luggage back to the Premier Inn, checked our luggage with them, had a nice breakfast there and spent time at West Quay. Ended up being a very fun day.
nikinakinoo Posted May 12, 2016 #16 Share Posted May 12, 2016 Holiday Inn which is on the port do buffet breakfasts £15pp I think. When we came off the Anthem last year we went to Frankie and Bennys just by the port gates
Missus Makkem Posted May 12, 2016 #17 Share Posted May 12, 2016 Wetherspoons in the old part of Southampton is also good. Not too far to walk and they do a good eggs Benedict, all reasonably priced.

Rare John Bull Posted May 12, 2016 #19 Share Posted May 12, 2016 Walk over to IKEA..Best breakfast near port.:) If you do this, give yourselves a couple of hours to find your way out. :D Only ever went in there once - not my scene (the IKEA thing, not the café) & I was supposed to follow the painted footsteps round each damned floor as I spiralled down from the top floor entrance toward the ground floor exit. Gave up halfway round & walked out via a fire door, which set off alarms. :o You'll have no trouble finding IKEA - their ridiculously huge sign dominates the area. Council refused permission for the carbuncle but IKEA won a planning appeal. (end of political rant ;)) Frankie & Benny's is in the entertainment complex opposte IKEA, MaccyD is also nearby if that's your sort of thing. Haven't eaten at West Quay Premier Inn but good breakfast & value at other locations. Add ASDA (rear entrance opposite coach station) for cheap breakfast. And Holiday Inn (right by Dock Gate 8 for Indy's berth) for probably the best breakfast in the city, but expensive. Missus Makkum & vikkiw obviously enjoy walking more than I do.;) But if you want to go that far, there's a greasy-spoon by the fruit & veg wholesale market. Rare Solent Richard Posted May 13, 2016 #20 Share Posted May 13, 2016 A 12 minute walk from Town Quay and you will find an amazingly good 'proper' restaurant, The White Star, in Oxford Street... http://www.idealcollection.co.uk/whitestartavern#pageslide1 Not just excellent food and ambiance but it boasts one of the most interesting cruise related murals in wc decorative history. Recommended.

Recommended. THIS!!!! had several good meals there. Can't understand why people suggest McDonalds or chain hotels, or department stores for breakfasts (or dinner for that matter). There are so many excellent independent local restaurants and cafés in Southampton which would be much more appreciative of your custom.
Ergates The Ant Posted May 14, 2016 #22 Share Posted May 14, 2016 Pret A Manger have a branch at the High Street entrance to West Quay Mall. Excellent coffee if you go for the 'strong' version, freshly baked croissants and pastries and yoghurt parfaits and fresh fruit. Free wifi as well. New cafe in the basement of Waterstones, used to be a Costa. Didn't try it but looked in and it looked very nice. Went to IKEA after our recent Princess cruise, as husband desperate for some proper toast! ( not thin, biscuity, dry and cold!)

Putterdude Posted May 14, 2016 #24 Share Posted May 14, 2016 I'd agree with John Bull re breakfast at the Holiday Inn, we purchased it as part of a Bed & Breakfast package, it is a buffet but surprisingly enough it was extremely good.
