stefs111 Posted May 11, 2016 #1 Share Posted May 11, 2016 If I get the AARP gift cards, will I be able to put them on my on board account, and then pull money from them at the slot machines?

Jeepenfun Posted May 11, 2016 #3 Share Posted May 11, 2016 Yes Ditto. I did it 3 weeks ago on Splendor, added $800 worth of cards, 4 cards total, onto my OBC. no debit or credit card tied to it and it lasted me and my wife for a 7 day cruise and included using it in the casinos. No problem.
stefs111 Posted May 11, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted May 11, 2016 Great, thanks. Now all I have to do is find them available!!!
eeyoreme Posted May 12, 2016 #5 Share Posted May 12, 2016 On the April 30, 2016, cruise on the Carnival Triumph, I loaded $500 (charged to my Sail & Sign account) into my player bank at a slot machine. A message appeared that I needed 500 points before I was allowed to cash-out. You earn 1 point for every $2.50 'spent' on a slot machine. I don't know if this point value is across the board or based on the dollar amount I charged. I was also using Carnival gift cards purchased through the AARP program. erinmarie424 Posted May 12, 2016 #6 Share Posted May 12, 2016 Was it you needed the points to cash out? or to reach your cash bonus? You get a $5 credit when you hit 500 points, and it tells you how far you are each time you put your card in a slot machine I'm just wondering if this is what you saw. I've never seen anything about needing to hit a minimum to cash out but I have never put that many GC on my SS account either.

The message specifically said "cash out", not "cash back". This was also the first time I've seen a message like this; it wasn't on the Dream in January. I'm guessing it may be Carnival's way of getting their "ATM fee"; they will let you get the cash by charging it to your Sail & Sign account, but they want to make sure you gamble more than just a couple of spins. Now, whether your S&S account being set-up using cash, gift cards or a credit card makes a difference, I don't know. Does anyone? Sure hope that doesn't happen to us on our Conquest B2B cruises in January (2016). We have way too much OBC and have prepaid our gratuities so plan on cashing out through slot machine to then apply the OBC to the 2nd cruise. The only time we've ever done this is last year on both cruises.

I've only ever put $50'or $100 in GC and didn't recall seeing the message. Although I typically only move $20 at a time on the slots.
shellsd Posted May 13, 2016 #10 Share Posted May 13, 2016 I am not saying you can't, but I am saying we couldn't. Maybe we just did not know how to do it right though. We had $600 left because I bought gift cards for cheers and then paid for cheers online when they started offering a discount for buying ahead of time so I couldn't use the GCs. we went to the lots and played but got nothing back. Probably user error as we are not casino people but I can at least say it is not amazingly obvious how to do it. I will say they sent me a gift card in the mail right away so I am so sad to say we had to book another cruise :D

That's how you get the cash. Sorry that you didn't get that, but at least you did get your money back AND another cruise :)
