DoubleTree Surfcomber Miami

We are looking at this hotel as a possible precruise hotel before our Western cruise with Valor. Could you please let me know your opinion about this hotel ?

ie. 1. How far it is from Miami airport?

2. Distance from Miami Port of Call -approx. cost of a taxi?

3. Safety?

4. Fun hotel for teens?

5. Close by grocery store?

Thanks:)

Its about 12 miles from the airport, a 20-30 minute ride. The cab fare will probably run you around $30. Its a relatively safe area not far from Lincoln Road. The teens will have a great time, trust me. There is a Publix Supermarket less then a mile from the hotel.;)

Stayed there a couple of years ago and it is not a bad hotel. It is one of the older hotels that has been totally refurbished. The rooms were nice but the bathrooms were small.

We walked each evening to Ocean Drive which is just a couple of blocks away and never felt that we were not safe. Good location with being right on the beach.

Thanks for the imput thus far.:) Not familiar with Delano's. Could you explain?

Very safe location, South Beach isn't dangerous.

The Delano is Ian Schraagers white on white stunning hotel that started the whole minimalist hotel theme.

Chances are you will see celebs at the Delano.

We have seen the entire Friends cast at different times, David Arquette, Justin Timerlake, Cameron Diaz, Kobe Bryant, Micheal Jordan, Shaq, and lots more.

By the way, I've stayed in at least 15 hotels in South Beach and they ALL have tiny rooms unless you book a suite.

Trying to make a decision between Hampton Inn Blue Lagoon and DoubleTree Surfcomber for a one night precruise stay. Our plane gets into FLL at noon the day before. We have teens with us so a pool is important and a safe area. There will be 4 in one room and 3 in another. Concerned about rooms being small at the Surfcomber. The cab fair from both hotels seems to be about the same. Any imput would be helpful.:)

You're comparing apples and oranges... While the Hampton Inn Airport South is a very nice new hotel, it's still an airport hotel and I'm quite sure your teens would be more than willing to put up with a cramped room to spend the afternoon/evening in South Beach! ;)

I did not find the rooms at the Surfcomber to be small but the bathroom was but it works for one night. Kind of gets you ready for the ships bathroom. :) Here is the Surfcombers site and it shows a photo of the room.
