cmbath Posted May 23, 2016 #1 Share Posted May 23, 2016 Just curious if Viking Oceans does like other cruise lines and offer incentives for you to sign up for another cruise while you are onboard the ship? I see a new itinerary I might like to try, but I'm wondering if I should go get it now, or wait two months and take my chances. id4elizabeth Posted May 24, 2016 #2 Share Posted May 24, 2016 We got $300 off our next cruise. Can't remember whether that was per person or both.
cmbath Posted May 24, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted May 24, 2016 It might be worthwhile to wait until we get onboard. Thanks

Chuck in Greensboro cmbath... Based on our experience aboard the Viking Sea three weeks ago, Viking does offer an incentive to book cruises while on a current cruise. Repeat cruisers on Viking ships received a $200 pp normally. While on our Barcelona to Bergen cruise, Viking doubled that to $400 pp when we booked a new river cruise. I don't know if that was a one time deal available to cruisers on the Sea's maiden voyage or that is an ongoing incentive.
Redtravel Posted May 27, 2016 #5 Share Posted May 27, 2016 Usually Viking repeaters get $200pp if they rebook within a year of a cruise. No pressure to rebook on the ship. $100pp if they rebook within 2 years. During April, they offered past guests $400pp off any 2016 cruise....ocean or river. It was enough to make us book again. We booked Grand European for August. Got $800 off per couple added to nicely discounted prices. Free air and transfers was also included. Viking values past guests. My Viking Air is very good. Thank Viking.
CharTrav Posted May 28, 2016 #6 Share Posted May 28, 2016 There is also a referral program whereby you get the same credit as those you refer. Rare Solent Richard Posted May 31, 2016 #7 Share Posted May 31, 2016 We got $300 off our next cruise. Can't remember whether that was per person or both. For that amount I think I'd know for sure.:)
CharTrav Posted June 2, 2016 #8 Share Posted June 2, 2016 I suspect it's $300 per passenger esp if you referred somebody. The normal for you booking within a year (which you did) is $200. And if you refer somebody else, another $100.
cmbath Posted July 30, 2016 Author #9 Share Posted July 30, 2016 I just signed up onboard. They doubled the returning discount of $200 pp, to $400. They also delay the final payment until 6 months out. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Rare milling73 Posted August 9, 2016 #10 Share Posted August 9, 2016 CMBATH: where / when onboard did you book the next cruise to get the additional discount? We have a sailing coming up and would like to grab any additional discount we can. Thank you!!
mpfund Posted August 9, 2016 #11 Share Posted August 9, 2016 It looks like Viking has a similar program to Seabourn, although for far less money. I wonder if we could start a clearing house (sticky) to match referrers and referees, the way it's done on Seabourn. I'll start -- we've booked our first Viking Ocean cruise for 2017 and would appreciate a referral.
mhb1757 Posted August 9, 2016 #12 Share Posted August 9, 2016 There was a big hoo ha on these boards last fall about people getting Viking referral credit from referrals made via cruise critic boards. Don't remember exactly how it turned out but I think the conclusion was you cannot refer people from here. But I'm sure someone will fill us in. dln929 Posted August 9, 2016 #14 Share Posted August 9, 2016 Viking's policy states that referrals cannot come from Cruise Critic, social media, or newspapers/magazines, etc. In other words, a referral has to be from a person that you actually know, not a cyber friend or acquaintance. Here's the link to Viking's info on it. http://www.vikingcruises.com/about-us/referral-rewards.html
cmbath Posted August 10, 2016 Author #15 Share Posted August 10, 2016 Milling73 - the future cruise desk is on Deck 2. It was right at the top of the stairs of the atrium, starboard side. You can call them when you get onboard to get a time to see them. They were very helpful. We booked both a river and ocean cruise.
