helpmeremembermyusername Posted May 30, 2016 #1 Share Posted May 30, 2016 Has anyone heard of changes in Vila - trial of dedicated lines for taxis/buses and the markets inside the port gates. The article I read also stated that taxis would charge high fees - like $130 for half day. We will be on the pacific pearl leaving Sydney 25th July- and normally when in Vila we are try and find some other cruisers on the dock and share a taxi into town or to where we can get small boat to hideaway island ( I think that's the island with the underwater post office) Not sure if this has started yet or planned - if any one has any information it would be appreciated. prerel Posted May 30, 2016 #2 Share Posted May 30, 2016 We were there 3 weeks ago, and yes, the taxis have organised themselves so there is not the free for all at the port gates. There is still a small crowd touting for business and the buses and taxis are lined up the road to Vila with just a few on the road above the port. It is $5 pp for a bus ride to Vila and the buses have produced a pricing pamphlet for hiring on a half and full day per bus. A 4 hour tour is charged at $250 per bus so the more passengers the cheaper it gets. We negotiated a tour for 4 of us for $200 so they will bargain. There are also water taxis available for $5pp to Vila, makes a pleasant alternative to a bus. The stalls are still on the road to Vila, so nobody allowed inside the port, although there is sometimes an overflow from the entrance.
mrs and mrs Posted May 30, 2016 #3 Share Posted May 30, 2016 The market stalls, just outside the port gate are fairly expansive(large),but you will still need to go into town for the best duty free prices.Green door, right beside the pub.:):cool:wATER TAXI LEAVES FROM BESIDE THE PUB,out the back, was $10,

Try $80 to $120 would be more reasonable......start walking into town. The taxi mafia is at it again. Sent from my SM-T530 using Tapatalk
