ProfDen Posted May 30, 2016 #1 Share Posted May 30, 2016 I have heard from several that some of the friendliest crew members on NCL are the Washy Washy Happy Happy team. Would it be considered rude or inappropriate to give them an extra tip? It seems that they can put the grumpiest or snobbiest cruisers in a great mood from all reports. Any Happy Happy Washy Washy funny stories to share? :):D
TheTruth79 Posted May 30, 2016 #2 Share Posted May 30, 2016 I agree! They really are the friendliest people. My mother, on our last cruise, was so impressed with one girl at the buffet. My mom even asked to take a picture with her. She was so nice about it and obliged. She even took one with her own phone, it was so sweet.
roger001 Posted May 30, 2016 #3 Share Posted May 30, 2016 You are always welcome to say thanks to any of them, both verbally and with a appreciative gesture of money. And....they never fail to make me even happier than I usually already am on any cruise.
NLH Arizona Posted May 30, 2016 #4 Share Posted May 30, 2016 In additional to any tip you may want to give, write up a hero card and let NCL know how much you appreciate them.

Dayenu Posted May 30, 2016 #6 Share Posted May 30, 2016 Several years later, we still remember the guy who started it all. In the final evening show, the crew talents, he got the standing ovation.

casofilia Posted May 30, 2016 #8 Share Posted May 30, 2016 I agree, they seem to be the happiest staff on the boat but I wonder if they get that job because they are so effusive. Talk to them away from that job when they are somewhere else and they are not over-happy when their turn comes round.
tallnthensome Posted May 30, 2016 #9 Share Posted May 30, 2016 I would sail the Escape again just to listen to Washy Washy guy. The most underpaid and unappreciated guy on the ship. He deserves a raise for all the smiles he brought.
Gershep Posted May 31, 2016 #10 Share Posted May 31, 2016 I have seen so many passengers get nasty with them. People are cruel. A tip would be a friendly and appreciated gesture.
mervous Posted December 15, 2017 #11 Share Posted December 15, 2017 yeah I tipped them, the washy washy guy and his guitarist mate got a paltry $10 from me on the last day and the big smiles and thanks told me that it doesn't happen often enough. Made my day every day. "I wanna wash your hands.." to the Beatles, classic. :D
FLAHAM Posted December 15, 2017 #12 Share Posted December 15, 2017 While waiting for friends near the buffet, I have seen numerous passengers go way out of their way to avoid a spritz of hand sanitizer. I think they should give her a gun belt and sidearm.
sergeant655 Posted December 15, 2017 #13 Share Posted December 15, 2017 The Sun had ones with musical talent and set the washy washy reminders to tunes people knew. I would find a table nearby so i can hear them during lunch They would sing La Bamba at the exit of the theatre after the we are Norwegian farewell. One if the little gems of the Sun

Rare Coreysgrl06 Posted December 15, 2017 #15 Share Posted December 15, 2017 The washy washy man and woman in Escape were like celebrities on our sailing last month. They got a special shoutout during Tylers pool game and during the final show friday night. One passenger recorded the guy singing and said he'd put it in youtube. I wrote vacation hero cards for them but they definitely deserve a tip. The woman was also working as a waitress in the Manhattan room.

Rare MrsTabs Posted December 16, 2017 #18 Share Posted December 16, 2017 going on my first cruise soon - but allergic to the hand sanitisers ( as well as most soaps, handwashes, facewash, perfumes etc etc the list goes on sadly) I can only use my own soap ( and will liberally) don't want to offend these good people is a polite no thank you enough or should I explain? KarimaJ Posted December 17, 2017 #19 Share Posted December 17, 2017 It kind of becomes “a thing” on the cruise and every time you walk into the buffet there they are. It always causes us to look around at our family and smile and repeat washy washy. [emoji5] Sent from my iPhone using Forums
lumpkin8 Posted December 18, 2017 #20 Share Posted December 18, 2017 I too am allergic to the sanitizer...I have serious excema (dishydrosis) on my palms and fingers. I go out of my way to avoid the spray, and don't appreciate being criticized by others thinking I am not clean. I also bring my own soap onto the ship and use it "religiously". I am glad the sanitizer is there for those who can use it, but I should not be hated for not being able to.
boatseller Posted December 24, 2017 #21 Share Posted December 24, 2017 Would it be considered rude or inappropriate to give them an extra tip? NO. I can't imagine any scenario where it even could be. Tip freely.
Something fun! Posted December 25, 2017 #22 Share Posted December 25, 2017 Washing your hands well is better hand hygiene than using hand sanitizer. Ask any medical professional. Not everyone who avoids the chemical squirt is germy...probably only half of them.
marktwothousand Posted December 25, 2017 #23 Share Posted December 25, 2017 Ya that is the thing. Washy washy happy happy cleanser doesn’t really “clean” your hands, it’s just a germ-killer. I think it better to go to a wash station and get any actual debris off your hands. Does anyone know which restaurants on the Escape are near hand washing stations? lumpkin8 Posted December 26, 2017 #25 Share Posted December 26, 2017 bbryan5....the earlier post said " I have seen numerous passengers go way out of their way to avoid a spritz of hand sanitizer. I think they should give her a gun belt and sidearm." which seemed pretty hostile, so, NO, "hated " did not seem to me to be a "dramatic" response.
