dltvermont Posted May 31, 2016 #3 Share Posted May 31, 2016 I purchased one just prior to our recent cruise. I was very happy I did. Had no issues and took great underwater pics. Was a bit pricey compared to other options but I wanted the RAW option in case I wanted to PP any of my pictures.
Parrottdizes Posted May 31, 2016 #4 Share Posted May 31, 2016 Yes pricey, but it is a good small P&S that not only works well under water, but has gives you that option to shoot in raw instead of jpeg. It also (beside auto and program) gives you the option to shoot in aperture mode. Though it won't replace your SLR, you can take the TG-4 into situations (rain, beach, to name a few) that you don't want to take the SLR. Plus it is small enough to fit into your pocket or purse. For me it is a good second camera and I am happy with the pictures taken with it.
popcan Posted June 22, 2016 #5 Share Posted June 22, 2016 Have one, got it to do underwater movies while in Curacao, Aruba, and Bonaire. It's a great little unit, takes fantastic movies and pics under water while snorkelling. Get it!
gpb11 Posted June 22, 2016 #6 Share Posted June 22, 2016 I own one. Great camera. I've used it snorkeling, hiking, at the beach, at the pool, in the rain, pretty much anywhere that it's handy to have a fully waterproof camera. My sole wish would be that it had a flip LCD to make pictures of my wife and I a bit easier, but it works pretty well just winging it... or doing the old fashioned thing and actually talking to the people around you and asking them to take your picture. If you're quick, you can get 20% off a certified refurbished one via Olympus' Outlet Store, making the price $224. The sale ends at midnight Eastern time tonight (6/22). Choose Red or Black.
airheadfan Posted June 23, 2016 #7 Share Posted June 23, 2016 Bought one for a recent trip to Scotland - have an old Canon waterproof and wanted an upgrade for the rainy weather. Did not want to take my Canon 5d because of the size. Also have a couple of Canon super-zooms but wanted the waterproof features. First - never went underwater. Did not even use it in the rain. Apparently the Scots lie about the weather and we had nothing but sun and blue skies in the North and West instead of the predicted rain and wind. Camera performed well. Quality does not match the larger sensor cameras but for a pocket camera (fits in my jacket or pants pockets) it was great. I love the wireless feature, being able to load pictures to my tablet for better viewing. For a snapshot camera, no complaints. Having RAW available is a great feature. I found the macro setting useful and good quality. Lots of other settings but I tended to use the P for most pictures. Occasionally used the Aperture setting that lets you choose the depth of field. Overall, I would recommend this camera for a convenient travel camera. It does not scream "steal me", is reasonably compact, and has lots of features. I am a happy user. gpb11 Posted July 20, 2016 #10 Share Posted July 20, 2016 Thanks for posting, I'm glad I was able to help. You might find you end up keeping the camera, it's fun to take to the beach/pool/etc as well as when cruising. FYI, I found the Sports Holder to be really handy. It easily attaches to a daypack shoulder strap making the camera very easily accessed yet also securely held. https://www.amazon.com/Olympus-Sports-Holder-CSCH-123-Orange/dp/B00T2WY9ZO

It is interesting that the camera will apparently sink if you let go of it in the water and Olympus does not clearly tell you this in the literature. DON Oh it will sink, they all will in fact the Olympus has a little weight to it compared to my old Cannon. I personally didn't like the float strap but loved the old Cannon trap that kind of locked around your wrist. I took it off and put it on time Olympus. :-) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
