Photography in Dining Room?

I've posted this in the photography section but thought I'd ask here too.

I like taking pictures of my food to remember later as part of my cruise album. Is this considered tacky or offensive by the restaurant staff or fellow cruisers?

Thanks for advice, I've done it before but mainly in larger venues and buffets.

I do it. Sometimes I get funny looks, but I just laugh it off and say, "Yes, I'm one of those people." On the other hand, people here on these boards LOVE to see food photos, and I get a lot of thanks for mine.

Taking photos of your food? Not my bag, but go wild: I've got more than one friend who apparently cannot eat without snapping a pic. Ask nicely and I'll even take a picture of you and your spouse/family/buddies with your food for you.

However using a flash that blinds your fellow diners, asking tablemates to move so you can get just the right angle, or demanding I wait to eat until you take a picture of MY food is a breach of Wheaton's Law and is dealt with by a polite 'please refrain from further disturbing my dining experience' which has always been sufficient thus far (although I'm astonished by the reaction from some, you'd think I'd just drop-kicked their puppy!)

based on the number of food porn pictures, those of us who do not are in the minority.

and we don't only because we can't be bothered to take the time. I'd rather start chowing down.

I enjoy looking at the pictures of food posted here on Cruise Critic. It gives me an idea of what I might like to eat and also what I might want to avoid. Also pictures of the menus are helpful.

I have no problem with those who take pictures, as long as they don't disturb me and my wife and don't use a flash.

I take pictures of my food all the time. I also take a picture of the menu, so I can remember what that thing I took a picture of was.

A close friend always posts pictures on facebook of her latest drink so as a joke DH and I started to do the same, only with food. It's now become almost a ritual when we are on holiday to snap away and post.

Have had a number of comments mostly positive, but as it is almost an 'in' thing between us we have just continued to post photos and will do so until we get bored and perhaps we will start taking photos of our drinks :D

I don't mind you taking pictures of your food. I just don't want my face showing up in your photo album. I enjoy food porn and that doesn't have any people so go for the food photos.

I can't speak for others, but all my food pictures are close ups of the plate. No people in the pictures.

If you are going to take photos indoors learn how to do it without using a flash so that you don't disturb everyone around you. Other than that, take all the pictures you want as long as you are not standing up, or moving things on the table to get your shot.

Thanks everyone! I also take pics of the menu to go over later. We typically get a table for two anyways but was afraid of the "judge" looks like I'm doing something I shouldn't be doing :p

I'll try to be discrete in taking pics and not bother my neighbours! :)

If people are taking photos of their plate any flash will not be in your face

Our camera has a setting for food shots

too bad we are usually half way through eating when we remember to take a pic

some of our tablemates would even take a photo of their plate with our camera & we would reciprocate

enjoy

I personally think that is completely tacky. However, as long as you do not interfere with my dining experience by holding up the buffet line or by moving things around the table to take your pictures or by using flask, I have no problem with it at all.

I can't imagine why anyone would want to take lots of pictures of what they are eating but that is your business.
