Bouff Posted July 3, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 3, 2016 We are sailing on the Eurodam next April with the ship scheduled to arrive in San Diego at 7am. Before flying home to the UK we are planning to take Amtrak to travel to LA for a few days there. There are fairly regular departures from San Diego but I am wondering whether the 10:41 might be a bit risky and perhaps we would be better off booking the 11:57. Any views would be welcome. CruiserBruce Posted July 3, 2016 #2 Share Posted July 3, 2016 You can typically make the 10:41, as it is a couple block walk from the ship, and there is no security issues at the train station. As discussed here frequently, Immigration and Customs at San Diego is frequently a nightmare, due primarily to the fact it is held on the ship, not in the terminal. Have gotten off ships 3 times in San Diego, never has the ship cleared before about 8:30. But even then, you shouldn't have a problem with a 10:41 train. Northern Aurora Posted July 3, 2016 #3 Share Posted July 3, 2016 We have disembarked several times in San Diego, and in 2012 we experienced one of those incredibly slow disembarkations. We could see the train station from the lounge we were in, and another couple watched the train they had booked departing the station. The airport is also very close to the cruise terminal, and there were some folks seated in that lounge who were sweating getting through airport security and making their planes. But that being said I think the OP can probably make the 10:41 train. But this is one port where I would consider a self-disembarkation option if I was traveling onward that morning. SadieN Posted July 4, 2016 #4 Share Posted July 4, 2016 Last time we debarked out of San Diego it didn't start until 9:30. Several of our fellow pax didn't feel it was necessary to go to the onboard CBP. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
Rare Keith1010 Posted July 4, 2016 #5 Share Posted July 4, 2016 If you don't care for stress I would select a later flight. As mentioned, immigration/customs is inconsistent. Keith
CruiserBruce Posted July 4, 2016 #6 Share Posted July 4, 2016 (edited) If you don't care for stress I would select a later flight. As mentioned, immigration/customs is inconsistent. Keith Keith, it's not a flight, it's a train. The station is 3 or 4 blocks walk, with no security delays. So you can show up 10 minutes prior to scheduled departure. I would think they could walk off the ship at 10am, and make the train pretty safely. As non-US citizens, they need to comply with Immigration in a timely manner to make sure it goes smoothly.
