GalCruzer Posted July 12, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 12, 2016 Has anyone done this recently? If so, how did you get there since there is no excursion for it? If you get a cab will they wait there for you or do you have to sched another one to pick you up? It will only be 2 of us, so want to be sure we get back. And I know it is a short tour so looking to go to a nice all inclusive (swimming food relaxing etc) beach after, any suggestions? TIA :)
Rare crewsweeper Posted July 12, 2016 #2 Share Posted July 12, 2016 It's a taxi ride. But it's on the east side of downtown San Miguel. So to head for an all inclusive with pool etc. like Nachi Cocum or Mr. Sanchos, you'll need to come back and go down the westside of the island to the western beaches. Taxis will wait but there's a waiting charge. The taxi will drop you at the westside beach club of your choice and then you can easily pick up another taxi back to the ship when you're ready to go. Could be a hefty total taxi fare for just 2. You could look into just hiring a driver for the day via Tours Plaza. And then have the driver take you to KaoKao first , an island tour of the Eastside beaches (no AI's there, but some good places to stop). And come back up the westside to one of the beach clubs, but that trip may not warrant the additional cost for an AI.
GalCruzer Posted July 12, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted July 12, 2016 Thank you for that. As far as the taxi waiting, I was talking about for the Kaokao tour only. But even that wait sounds like it could be costly,so will definitely look into hiring a driver. But why wouldn't additional costs for the all inclusive be worth it? If we just do Kaokao and say Mr Sancho 's . But I do like the idea of seeing other areas on the East side as well. Do these drivers usually have a good agenda to choose from? Or is all up to you? Because hard to decide when you've only been there once.
Rare crewsweeper Posted July 12, 2016 #4 Share Posted July 12, 2016 Whether or not the expense of an AI over pay-as-you-go is worth it depends on what you are looking for and the amount of time you would spend at the beach club. Most of the drivers will follow what you tell them you'd like to do or see, but all can take you anywhere or even suggest places.
LHARTWICK Posted July 20, 2016 #5 Share Posted July 20, 2016 We did the Kaokao tour last fall - loved it! It's a very small "factory" in the middle of a neighborhood, but it was very interesting and enjoyable. The staff is also very friendly. You also get to make your own chocolate "patties" to take home with you. We also purchased several chocolate items in their gift shop. We took a taxi there. Once we were done, there were taxis outside waiting to take people back to the ship or to wherever they needed to go.
GalCruzer Posted July 21, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted July 21, 2016 Thinking more about going with a Tours Plaza driver so we can see more of Cozumel after the Chocolate Tour. Then settle at Paradise Beach. How far in advance do you have to book a driver?

How far in advance do you have to book a driver? This is a good choice. We have toured many times with drivers from ToursPlaza. Eduardo is very efficient at answering questions and handling booking. They have several drivers but if you want Gerry (the owner) I would advise you to book as soon as possible. Paradise Beach is a good place to finish. You can either have your driver wait for you, or finish your tour there and take a taxi back when you are ready. Plenty of taxis available from southern beach clubs but you need to have a driver with you round the east side. B

In the heat of the beach it will all become liquid chocolate, yummy but messy!
LHARTWICK Posted July 29, 2016 #9 Share Posted July 29, 2016 And if you don't want to reverse your itinerary, take the chocolate factory tour, go to the beach and then you can purchase the Kaokao brand chocolate bars/products at the shops in port on your way back to the ship. I noticed the souvenir shops at the terminal sold the Kaokao chocolate bars at about the same cost as what you'd pay at the factory. But the chocolate will definitely melt quickly if you don't get it back to your AC'd cabin.

Another suggestion would be to check with Eduardo before you leave that there will be a cooler in the van. They have always had a cooler when we have gone. You can stop at a local store to buy ice or soft drinks, water or beer to drink while touring. Maybe take some large ziplock bags?
GalCruzer Posted July 30, 2016 Author #11 Share Posted July 30, 2016 Thank everyone. I will check on the cooler as well as just thinking about purchasing some closer to the port. I didn't even think about being able to buy any...
erinmarie424 Posted August 1, 2016 #12 Share Posted August 1, 2016 just an FYI when we went a couple years back the chocolate at the Factory was half the price that it was in the gift shops.... that may have changed but just something to consider..... GalCruzer Posted August 1, 2016 Author #13 Share Posted August 1, 2016 Thanks for that. Also trying to decide whether to purchase tickets ahead of time or not...
webprinter Posted August 14, 2016 #14 Share Posted August 14, 2016 We did the chocolate factory last year and had a great time. We took a taxi from the port to the factory and then walked back down to the waterfront from the factory. Our guide gave us very good directions and we had no problem except that it was very hot.
