We are going on a cruise in May, 2017. We are looking at flying into Seattle, train to Vancouver next day, and then flying back from Fairbanks to Seattle and then to East Coast. Does that sound like a good plan? Suggestions??? Thanks!!

What would be the alternative for you? :) Yes this is a straight forward usual flight routing.

I do suggest you add days in Fairbanks- if on a cruise tour. Those see very little of the area. You might want to take advantage of being there. :) IF independent, have you considered flying out of Anc as well? Simple to get from Fairbanks to Anchorage. And if renting a car, could be significantly cheaper.

We are doing a cruise and land tour and ending in Fairbanks. Just trying to find the most simple and economical travel. Is Fairbanks worth spending another day in the area? Thanks for any help. First time in the area.

What was it that interested you in Fairbanks, to begin with, when you chose to include it? There is plenty to add and see. Could be well worth extra days for many. http://www.explorefairbanks.com

I spend days in Fairbsnks touring. My preference, you need to determine yours?

Simpler- flights would be flying into Vancouver and out of Fairbanks. Plenty of alternatives that could be money savers.

I am doing the opposite trip, starting in Fairbanks, ending in Vancouver. This is what I am doing:

We knew we wanted to spend a few days in Vancouver, but timing worked better before the cruise than after even though we end up there. I bought RT tickets in and out of Vancouver from the east coast, and I will book a one way flight from Vancouver to Fairbanks.

I did not look much into RT Seattle flights because it wasn't really cheaper and the idea of lugging suitcases any more than necessary seemed like more than my tolerant husband would tolerate.

I am finding the the one way flights from Vancouver to Fairbanks are not well timed. I would like to arrive early on the check in to the hotel day and see a bit of Fairbanks on my own, but flights seem timed to arrive in FB late....like even midnight. I might cut one night in Vancouver in order to arrive after midnight the day before the official day 1.

Most flight I looked at from the east coast had connections all over the country and required pretty much a full day. Then I happened upon a United flight from my small regional airport to Chicago, then straight onto Vancouver. I was thrilled.

We are doing a northbound cruise in June 2017 I was looking into flying into seattle then the train . But we check in the flights to Vancouver and its easier for us to go right to vancouver and spend the night there then our cruise starts friday . The train and hotel in seattle was just to much travel time . And we want to spend time in vancouver thurs and friday morning . We went with alaska airlines great rates from east coast . Enjoy your cruise northbound cruises are awesome.

you can take the train to Vancouver the same day - it leaves Seattle very late.

Is there a specific reason you want to fly to/through Seattle each way?

Memorial day weekend this year we flew from Atlanta to Vancouver by way of Toronto, then Fairbanks back to Atlanta by way of Minneapolis. Price difference vs. flying into Seattle and taking ground transport to Vancouver was minimal for our preferred schedule and not worth the added travel time.

There's nothing wrong with flying into Seattle first, especially if you want to visit Seattle for a bit on your way to Vancouver. Just don't assume you need to go through there.
