bri1035 Posted May 1, 2017 #3654 Share Posted May 1, 2017 Noticed that. I know they successfully tried a Voyager class ship in Key West a while ago, but maybe it was a bit too close for comfort. I didn't realize they had ever tried a Voyager Class ship there. It's hard to imagine a ship of that size being able to make it in (though similarly sized Solstice-class ships seem to do it), but maybe they are giving up Key West for other reasons. It adds a sea day to the 4-night cruise (rather than three port days), which keeps the casino, bars, shops, etc. open with people to patronize them. That said, Enchantment is the only Royal Caribbean ship calling on Key West year-round, and it's a shame to lose that option on the 4-night cruises from Miami. Remember... Cococay enhancements (pier, water park, etc) Also click this link and scroll down, some extremely rare and great screen caps of Mariner testing Key West...maybe the tests failed? http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1620531&page=3 Edited May 2, 2017 by Hoopster95
kruzerci Posted May 2, 2017 #3659 Share Posted May 2, 2017 Port Canaveral is our driveable home port, but I'm absolutely ecstatic about Mariner offering weekend cruises. I think we will see the bottom fall out on Majesty prices when competing with Mariner. We stopped doing Bahamas cruises when they replaced Enchantment with Majesty. We will be more than happy to fly to Miami for Mariner!
cj7763 Posted May 2, 2017 #3660 Share Posted May 2, 2017 Ovation in dry dock in Zhoushan (near Shanghai) Reports of problems with the propulsion system. harz99 Posted May 2, 2017 #3662 Share Posted May 2, 2017 I've curious about the 2 days in the Suez Canal. We transited in a day on the way across to Asia so I wonder what they are doing for 2 days. Is it a night transit entering on day one and exiting on day 2?
londongal796 Posted May 2, 2017 #3663 Share Posted May 2, 2017 Is it a night transit entering on day one and exiting on day 2? Yeah wondering same thing. We didn't get to do the sailing this April but we were scheduled on Vision for the 16 night Dubai to Venice cruise, Suez Canal transit was scheduled for 1am through 3pm, so it could easily fall, for instance, between 11pm and 1pm etc (or whatever timeframe that would overlap two days). Also -- that itinerary that we saw posted has to be a little bit wrong because there are only 15 days listed but with a 15 night cruise, there should be 16 'days' (including the final port of call)--there's likely another day of cruising somewhere. I'm a little disappointed there aren't more stops but this is to be expected with such re-positioning cruises. Usually they are lower priced because of it (here's hoping, anyway!). For comparison purposes, the 16 night Dubai to Venice cruise called at Muscat, Oman; Aqaba, Jordan; Suez Canal; Jerusalem, Israel; Haifa, Israel; and Athens, Greece. We've already been to Athens but it would have been neat to visit Muscat. We'll see what the price is like on Mariner and may move our Rhapsody TA over to this sailing instead. joandian Posted May 2, 2017 #3665 Share Posted May 2, 2017 I've just booked the "global Odyssey" through the call center. I have compared the prices to our Galveston to Dubai legs of the Mariner cruise across to Asia and the TA is more expensive for 13 nights rather than 15 in 2013. Barcelona - Dubai is about $500 less expensive than the Barcelona to Dubai in 2013 for the same number of nights and is the less expensive section. The 13 night Singapore to Dubai is the most expensive. Comparisons were made for a JR suite on the hump both times. I had hoped it would be cheaper than it is since the ports are nowhere near as good but not too bad I guess. I will hope for price drops though. To answer the Suez Canal question. Arrive at the canal at 9pm April 30 and exit 3pm May 1. It's late here in Australia so I am off to bed now that I have my booking.
