Suzieanna Posted September 22, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 22, 2016 What is it about NCL that makes people come back? What do you like the best? except for pricing and drinks package - what is there that makes NCL better or different for you? I will start with mine - the only NCL ship I have been on is The Spirit and I LOVED the buffalo wings from Blue Lagoon. (I didn't even know buffalos had wings!!!) I will start with mine - the only NCL ship I have been on is The Spirit and I LOVED the buffalo wings from Blue Lagoon. (I didn't even know buffalos had wings!!!) Departure port: Miami. Living in Miami, we just get all the good last minute sales. When it's cheaper to be in the boat,(sorry ship, ship I get it) than to stay at home, we drive ten minutes and get aboard. So it's not really just NCL, it's X, MSC, Carni, Royal, Princess, etc. anyone sailing out of MIA. Cheers.
nets33 Posted September 22, 2016 #4 Share Posted September 22, 2016 I love the "Freestyle" concept that NCL has. Many other cruise lines have the "your time dining" but it really isn't the same. These other lines still have the entertainment set up for the set dining time with two main shows (one for early seating, the second for late seating). NCL's entertainment and the new ships are designed to allow me to decide what I want to do. Any cruise is a good cruise but if we had to choose and everything else was equal we'd go with NCL. js Posted September 22, 2016 #5 Share Posted September 22, 2016 (edited) I'm not loyal to any one line but when I can/want to have a different experience, I book NCL for the Haven. I sail the mainstream lines and think NCL Haven experience compared to DCL, CCL and RCCL cannot be beat. I do have a CCL Vista Havana Cabana booked for 2018, where the Havana area is closed to guests until 5 or 7 pm but hoping eventually CCL does like NCL and keeps an area dedicated to Havana guests, as NCL does for Haven. I also LOVE the fact that my dh or ds doesn't need to wear dress pants each night to dinner. We have to dress up all the time at home for work, it is nice just packing nice golf shirts and shorts instead of the pants. We were able to even eat at LeBistro on Breakaway in August with the guys wearing shorts, they just sat us outside. We had the UDP for all nights so figured what the heck. Starflyr3 Posted September 22, 2016 #8 Share Posted September 22, 2016 I don't have to dress up. Ever. Not that I dress like a slob, but I hate hose and gowns, and the slacks/blouses I own are my work clothes. When I'm on vacation, I don't want to feel like I'm working!!! Suzieanna Posted September 22, 2016 Author #13 Share Posted September 22, 2016 that's a great point about the dress up - or not! I love dressing up - my husband hates it! We went on Anthem with its "dynamic" dining last year... nightmare!! - well, it wasn't really, but who wants to book a mealtime a year out! Don't mention the LOBSTER here, you naughty boy! :D I want to hear what makes it GREAT!! (or different at least!)
nipponcruiser Posted September 22, 2016 #14 Share Posted September 22, 2016 The INSANE last-minute deals that can still be had for $50 per person per day or less......if you are flexible with your travel arrangements/date. Incidentally, the same is what drives us to cruise with Princess. As long as we are on a ship, ANY ship, we are happy! Thanks, Fred
Suzieanna Posted September 22, 2016 Author #15 Share Posted September 22, 2016 Well, you know what I didn't know what Lox was until about 5 years ago. I thought it was like a Bison or some other type of animal from America I also didn't know what Gravlax was until I ordered some in a restaurant, and I was most disappointed because I was expecting chicken. I was only about 10 at the time though.... I am from the isle of man by the way which is a bit backward, so be gentle with me.
mom2tcdx2 Posted September 22, 2016 #16 Share Posted September 22, 2016 Wow, I would say this is a tough one for me to answer as I pretty much only book NCL for the price or drink package perk. I don't really have any other reason to book them. I am not crazy about the dine anytime concept, I like the set dining with a set staff. Truly I can't think of anything I get on NCL that I can't get on any other cruise line. So for us the price is what leads.
spanishguy1970 Posted September 22, 2016 #17 Share Posted September 22, 2016 we love their freestyle, their Transatlantics, their prices on their Transatlantics, the staff ( most of the times) and did i mention their prices :D. Is not about being loyal to a cruise line is about what it happens to be convenient at this particular moment..

mom2tcdx2 Posted September 22, 2016 #19 Share Posted September 22, 2016 What cruise lines require that? Bill So true, none of the main lines - RCL, Carnival, Princess - require dressing up and you won't be turned away if you aren't. I take the exact same clothes on NCL that I take on any of the other cruise lines. Now your more expensive luxury lines - maybe Cunard, Seabourn, etc might want dressier. Rare www3traveler Posted September 22, 2016 #20 Share Posted September 22, 2016 I am about to leave home for my 30th Norwegian cruise. What keeps me coming back; STAFF, STAFF, STAFF does not matter if it is a small ship like The Spirit or a big one like The Getaway. I have made so many friends among staff members. Several have become my "Cruise Ship Kids".

Cunard, Queen Mary people go as far as wearing tuxedos, Seabourn also requires long dresses, ties etc. I do have to admit though some people take the freestyle dress up to a WHOLE other level :eek::eek:

What cruise lines require that? Bill First time on NCL in 499 days :D. For us the draw is freestyle and no dress clothes! I agree with Starflyr about not having to dress up. Although, technically people can and do get away with not following the dress codes on other lines, we tend to wear what they request, so it will be wonderful not having to bring "special" clothes for the dining room. Dress shorts and jeans, our norms, will fill our suitcases - no dress slacks, ties, long sleeve button down shirts, dresses or pickle poker shoes will be taking up room in our suitcases this trip :)
