loubetti Posted September 29, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 29, 2016 The title says it all, and my only hint is 70 years. I don't expect "Carnivard" management to have a clue, but I' sure some of you do!:D Guess away!
Jim Avery Posted September 29, 2016 #2 Share Posted September 29, 2016 Hi Lou. The only thing I can think of is that the original Queens resumed passenger service. You always come up with good stuff so I look forward to the answer. :D
Happyboating Posted September 29, 2016 #3 Share Posted September 29, 2016 Queen Elizabeth became the flagship - she took over from Queen Mary.

pepperrn Posted September 29, 2016 #6 Share Posted September 29, 2016 (edited) Bingo! Good one Pepper. I always forget the years later "Maiden" voyage on QE. :DThank you Jim :) If war hadn't prevented it, can you imagine the celebrations that must have been in the back of Sir Percy Bates's mind for 1940, to mark the 100th year of operation of the "Cunard Line" (as it became known). Had RMS Queen Elizabeth entered service as planned that year. "1840-1940; Cunard has the world's fastest liner, and now the world's largest liner"... (or similar, I would imagine) (Such a pity he died on the very day that Queen Elizabeth set sail on her "maiden" voyage) Best wishes to you. Host Hattie Posted September 30, 2016 #7 Share Posted September 30, 2016 Perhaps those on board the current Queen Elizabeth on the anniversary can tell us whether it gets a mention.
Fireflyuk Posted September 30, 2016 #8 Share Posted September 30, 2016 Perhaps those on board the current Queen Elizabeth on the anniversary can tell us whether it gets a mention. We'll be on board on the 16th October and the Queen Elizabeth will be in Katakolon. I'll let you know if anything is said...

The correct answer! RMS Queen Elizabeth makes her maiden voyage as a commercial passenger liner- not a troopship! Only later would she be joined by Queen Mary. Otherwise, all of you know your stuff! :) Now, if I could just sell my builders' certificate for her. It's time for a new care taker after 20 years. http://www.ebay.com/itm/152250135026?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 This is NOT a solicitation to purchase, just thought you'd like to see it. Note Sir Stephen Piggot's, of John Brown, signature on it.
Fireflyuk Posted October 21, 2016 #12 Share Posted October 21, 2016 Perhaps those on board the current Queen Elizabeth on the anniversary can tell us whether it gets a mention. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you but having such a good time here on the Queen Elizabeth I forgot to post! The Captain did mention the anniversary in his noon day announcement and this morning here in Cadiz he has even mentioned that today is Trafalgar Day. I have been very impressed with Captain Aseem Hashmi, first time I have come across him and he is very personable and visible around the ship. Rare rakkor Posted October 21, 2016 #13 Share Posted October 21, 2016 I'll second the comments about Captain Hashmi, he has been brilliant. We were on an excursion on Wednesday so didn't hear the Captain's 12 o'clock chat and couldn't confirm if he'd noted the anniversary. Host Hattie Posted October 21, 2016 #14 Share Posted October 21, 2016 Thanks for letting us know and definitely no need to apologise for having a good time on a Cunard ship !
Fireflyuk Posted October 21, 2016 #15 Share Posted October 21, 2016 My mistake. I've just been reminded that it was his morning message not a lunchtime one! We're loving reading your blog rakkor! I keep asking any tall person I see around the ship if they are you... but no luck so far!
Rare rakkor Posted October 21, 2016 #16 Share Posted October 21, 2016 (edited) We're generally in the Commodore Club at 17.00 every evening, in fact we are in there now! Failing that keep you eye out for a loud, tall northern bloke with no hair, but don't confuse me with Duncan though, he can dance, I can't!
