I am a specialty restaurant guy. As I travel for my job I detest banquet food( i.e. MDR). I love all the specialty restaurant options and upgraded entertainment options on NCL. In addition love that there is entertainment after 10 pm and an active casino.

I'm not an entertainment kind of girl, but I love the specialty restaurant option. I especially love Cagney's and the Teppanyaki restaurant.

I think the question you need to ask is 'why are there endless nickel and dimed threads?'

Don't forget endless TIPPING threads, and DO YOU BUY INSURANCE THREADS. Just saw one of those from someone who apparently doesn't know how to search. I think they were just looking to up their post count, so they look more credible. If people searched, there would probably be very few new threads!!

Yes! If you don't like Norwegian Cruise lines, then don't book a cruise with Norwegian Cruise lines! It's that simple.

Thank you for your concise analysis. Perhaps some posters who have been past NCL cruisers are dismayed at recent policy changes and the proliferation of fees and have tried to raise these concerns in a thoughtful fashion. I thought the CC boards were a venue to do this. I am not a 'lurker' looking to bash NCL but rather a past passenger who booked an upcoming cruise and was disappointed at what he discovered as current policy.

Apparently this is not allowed. I assume that you find nothing to object to regarding NCL and I am really glad you have found the perfect cruise line.

Since I have cancelled our Getaway cruise I don't plan to spend any more time on these boards unless we look to NCL in the future and I wish everyone 'Happy Cruising'.

You could also choose only to post positive threads. For example, you could have chosen to title this thread "Anyone Else as Happy With NCL as I Am?", but this is a public forum, and you can't be surprised when people state opinions which differ from yours.

.

Exactly! You started this thread to be inflammatory. Are you confused about positive and negative?

I do my homework and pick the best overall value cruise for me.

I do a thorough research so there is no reason to bitch afterwards about nickel and dimming.

I have no loyalty to any line as it is not always the same one that comes out ahead.

If once onboard I decide to add a few extra things, no big deal, I am well aware of the cost and I am there to relax and have fun.

I have learned over the years that anything that can be fixed with a few extra dollars is not a big deal, you can work a bit more or save a bit more, or budget better.

For now I still find cruising fun and enjoyable and overall a cost effective vacation and so far I have never been on a cruise that I did not enjoy, regardless of which ship or line I was on.

We sailed on the Escape with four other couples in March. Three had never cruised and one is Diamond (or whatever they call it) with RCI. NCL staff consistently accommodated our wandering band of 10 at every restaurant and bar we visited. All of us had a great time and our room steward nailed down our first names immediately and provided terrific service. The RCI couple efused about NCL and we're all booked again for next March.

I never thought I would ever cruise on NCL, but tried it because of their association with Caesar's, as well as wanting to put a mass market line into my mix of cruise lines and I have to say I was totally surprised. Their crew equaled that of Celebrity (where I'm Elite) in service and professionalism and I thought the entire experience was great, plus I've met some wonderful folks onboard the ships through Cruise Critic. I got an added surprise, when I found out I could book with CAS and get a great deal (still have to pay for my upgrade to a suite), so I've continue to cruise with NCL, along with the other lines I cruise on, and have enjoyed every cruise I've been on.

Of course, every one of our NCL cruise hasn't been perfect. A couple of years ago, the carpeting outside of the bathroom on the Gem was soaking wet. Our cabin steward was right on it and the hotel director called us within 20 minutes. He offered up a replacement cabin and told us to ask our steward to pack us up and move our stuff. We opted to move ourselves. At checkout, there was a $300 room credit on our invoice. A nice surprise.

These threads are useful for the exchange of information - and sometimes that information is not all about how wonderful NCL is. To the extent there are valid complaints, it might be worthwhile to post them- NCL management might even take notice of things which bother customers and potential customers, and take corrective steps.

If only cheerleaders post - what's the point.

I completely and totally agree. I like NCL however if certain things are not put into the light they cannot be handled and fixed. NCL is far from perfect. I for one don't feel i am being nickel and dimed because i know exactly what i need and that is what i get. If i don' agree with a post i just don't read and move on...however i do get OP post about flaming, there are those that go on every thread to attack the op or want them to behave as they would and that is just plain nuts..

It's the policy changes some don't like.

Remember when the new policy change came down that there would be NO food allowed to be taken from the café to your cabin?

Howling about it from posters on CC made NCL change their position.

We are past passengers since the Norway and several other lines, and saw many changes of which 99% of the changes were for the better, but when NCL gets something wrong they begin to hear about it and BIG time.

NCL garners about 10% of the cruise industry compared to the BIG boys, however they lead in innovation with the BIG boys following.

When NCL went to freestyle there were hundreds of threads about hating it.

People wanted to keep the 'same' tablemates and 'same' time constraints.

We loved freestyle right off the bat, as we didn't have to return early from a shore excursion or leave a happy moment. NCL was ahead of its time and the BIG boys followed.

The 'new' policy of water is my big beef, and I will continue to let Corporate, both in Miami and Singapore/Hong Kong (40% ownership) know.

I don't care IF they charge me to bring my OWN water on board. I am just ANGRY that I am held hostage to THEIR water which has a horrible after taste and I need at least 6...8oz bottles a day.

NCL can find storage for a 100 different beers, 100 different alcohol drink choices, but subject their passengers to ONE brand of water.

They allow flower arrangements to be delivered by local florists why not water?

As I said above.....CHARGE me to bring my own choice of water! Or arrange for a local company or store to DELIVER my choice of water, as they do with the flowers.

Now flame away at me, as I've been through it all from the smoking threads over the years to freestyle to now nickel and diming.

Sometimes beating the dead horse makes you feel better. For a moderate drinker the beverage package with grats is not a good deal. Next time, I will get another promo. No other cruise line charges grats on the beverage package. Also, NCL's wine choices by the glass on the packages suck.
