Garavar Posted October 14, 2016 Author #129 Share Posted October 14, 2016 Was it that bad, lol? Keep reminding yourself it's free. Nah not bad at all, it's free, can't beat free. It's cozy Enjoy the cabin, did you get one with porthole window. :o It looks like a square window. It's over the bed though, not a fan of that, fearful it will get hot. Or sun will shine into eyes. We shall see. But as I said it's free woot woot Sent from my STV100-1 using Forums mobile app
xxHadleyxx Posted October 14, 2016 #130 Share Posted October 14, 2016 I am so glad to see the updates and that RCI is doing the right thing in the end--sorry you had to push so hard and stress about it though---the intial "offer" was absolutely ridiculous and I am glad you adn your TA did not drop the matter. RCI should be embarrassed to have even tried to pull that on someone
Biker19 Posted October 14, 2016 #131 Share Posted October 14, 2016 RCI should be embarrassed to have even tried to pull that on someone They wouldn't pull it if they were not certain that a fair number of folks would take their offer.;)
emeraldcity Posted October 15, 2016 #132 Share Posted October 15, 2016 I'm so glad it worked out for you. I've been following this thread and trying to determine if going after a Guarantee cabin would be worth trying. There have been a few threads like this one that have me still on the fence. TravelerThom Posted October 15, 2016 #133 Share Posted October 15, 2016 I have done a number of Guarantees, and so far have been satisfied. BUT this story, and the IMO even worse story last year leave a pretty bad taste. I think RCI needs to specify what "Guarantee" means. These stories make it looks like RCI guarantees to take your money and maybe give you what they promise or maybe not give you what they promise. I think if they default on their guarantee they SHOULD refund your money and GIVE you a comparable future cruise (or if you choose a less grade room on the original cruise), and they should say so in writing. Otherwise their word Guarantee is meaningless.
Coralc Posted October 15, 2016 #134 Share Posted October 15, 2016 My co-worker's parents had booked a balcony stateroom for a 7 day Alaska cruise on Princess. The cruise line contacted them to let them know that the cruise was oversold. They were offered their original sailing date in an inside stateroom at no cost plus some onboard credit. AND a future cruise certificate for the sailing of their choice, 7 days in a balcony stateroom. His parents declined the offer. As avid cruisers, I think we probably would have taken it. :)
Garavar Posted October 15, 2016 Author #135 Share Posted October 15, 2016 Mini Update for future readers: Some differences between Suites and OVs that I didn't know existed... 1) there is no mini bar, I had no idea, I thought all rooms had mini bars. We have nothing to raid when we go to bed. 2) the safe requires a credit card to open/close (no charge) while in Suites it's code lock. (Like code better because now I have to carry around a credit card on cococay and around the ship) Sent from my STV100-1 using Forums mobile app

You could just hide the card in your room saving you from having to carry it around.

Ken at the beach Posted October 15, 2016 #138 Share Posted October 15, 2016 Will cabin key work? Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Forums mobile app Good question. It's been several years since we were on Monarch and Majesty and to be honest I don't remember ever having a safe that you had to swipe. But then again I can't remember what I had for breakfast yesterday.:D

The directions say credit card, I will try room key tonight I believe it was either on Legend or Enchantment or both that we ran into this type of safe lock. We used the hotel door card that we had since I had forgotten to give it back when we checked out of our pre-cruise hotel. :D

You could just hide the card in your room saving you from having to carry it around. That is what I do. You can use a grocery savings card or an AARP card or any other with a magnetic strip. Then, I just hide it in the pocket of a shirt or pants and it is there whenever we want to use it. But, I thought they got rid of all those old safes...I guess not! cruzinlady1947 Posted October 15, 2016 #142 Share Posted October 15, 2016 I don't think a room key works. I believe we tried it one time and it didn't work for us. Gwen :)

Biker19 Posted October 15, 2016 #144 Share Posted October 15, 2016 The reader on the safe is probably really cheap and can't distinguish what kind of card you swipe - it just needs to see some info on the mag stripe (probably on track 2 which is usually just numbers). xxHadleyxx Posted October 15, 2016 #145 Share Posted October 15, 2016 We've always been able to use any card with a magnetic strip on the safes as well. I don't think that is so much a suite vs inside thing as just when the safe was last replaced. We used to think it was by ship, until we had connecting rooms with the teens and one safe was a combination safe and one had the card swipe--same room type, same ship. Garavar Posted October 16, 2016 Author #147 Share Posted October 16, 2016 They suggest you don't use your sea pass card because if you lose it, you have given someone access to both your cabin and your safe. That reason makes sense but it's flawed logic by RCL because I, as most people do, keep my seapass card with the credit card they forced me to use. Therefore if I lose one I'll lose both so the person who finds it will have access to my room, my safe and a credit card to buy nice things online with or go to Casino atm and clean me out. Really not a fan of the card one either way. Makes the whole process seem less secure. Hope they continue to remove and replace those. Garavar Posted October 24, 2016 Author #148 Share Posted October 24, 2016 Final Update: Got 6 Points instead of 3 (or 0) for my original suite booking even though they gave me OV. Question Now: If I get on Navigator with 135 Points and cruise 9 nights in a GS. Will I get my crystal block on that sailing? or the next sailing?
