david_sobe Posted October 16, 2016 #26 Share Posted October 16, 2016 (edited) I have been on both the Epic and Getaway and the Epic is a much better ship IMHO. The Getaway does have the wonderful waterfront and a better aqua park with better water slides too. Its important to remember that the ships are similar but the Epic wins hands down on so many other features: Epic spa is still the largest at sea and far superior and larger than Getaway. Epic also has aft views with open area. Epic Spice H20 has a REAL pool and stadium seating. Just seems bigger and better. Epic gym blows Getaway's out of the water. The gym on Getaway almost seems like an after thought. Haven area - Epic blows Getaway out of the water. The Haven restaurant on Getaway is so tiny. Epic Haven lounge has water views. No water views from the lounge on Getaway. Specialty restaurants: La Cucina has its own space and not open area like on Getaway. La Cucina on Epic is a very big and posh space with amazing water views. Shanghais is also bigger and better. It has its own space on Epic. On Getaway its a small open area to the smokey casino which is also loud.. Nightclubs. The nightclub on Getaway is a joke. Its a small room. Epic has Bliss night club that is HUGE and has cool funky areas to chill. I probably missed a few more but you get the point. I was on Getaway after Epic and was a bit disappointed in the chopped up and cramped areas compared to Epic. pooh/tigger Posted October 16, 2016 #27 Share Posted October 16, 2016 Is it true O'Sheehans is open on Embarkation day for lunch? Can any cabin level passenger purchase a weekly pass for posh? Pics of H2O are helpful. Looks like the perfect spot to relax.

brookie848 Posted October 16, 2016 #29 Share Posted October 16, 2016 We have sailed on the Epic twice and enjoyed our trips. One thing I loved is the combination of Posh (the Epic's answer to Vibe) and the buffet two floors below. It was great to take the private elevator down to get a quick ice cream or a snack. ColinIllinois Posted October 16, 2016 #30 Share Posted October 16, 2016 What is The Hump please? My Missus gets one when I missbehave Google pics of the Epic. The "humps" on the outside of the ship are obvious. Nice large balconies.
Heather1972 Posted October 16, 2016 #31 Share Posted October 16, 2016 Epic has the best pools. I can't stand the DEEP pools on the breakaway class ships. Also like the pool in the adults only area.

SuiteCruiser Posted October 16, 2016 #34 Share Posted October 16, 2016 (edited) I LOVE Epic! It's my favourite ship. Lots of places to hang out with friends (old and new), I love Posh and suggest running for passes if you aren't in the Haven. The Haven is much nicer, love watching the water when eating, on the Away ships, you only have one end of the room with windows. The whole vibe of the ship is great. The restaurants, I love grabbing sushi when I don't feel like a full meal. Spice, Bliss, you name it, I love it. I've been in a studio (the smallest cabin) for a transatlantic, and now I'll be in the largest DOS for a transatlantic, I can't wait, I know it will be amazing! Tutontow Posted October 16, 2016 #35 Share Posted October 16, 2016 If you hate it so much and consider it a prison, why have you repeatedly sailed on her? Just curious as I wouldn't book another cruise on a ship I hated. You beat me to it. ilovetotravel1977 Posted October 16, 2016 #36 Share Posted October 16, 2016 Ditto on Spice. If it wasn't for the itinerary, I would sail the Epic every time (if not bring my 8 year old). We were in Spice every day as that pool was a godsend! And for some reason, the stadium/tiered seating really opens up the space.

It's been at guest services, if anyone's grabbed one lately please chime in. They only have around 20 of them, so it's important to go early. debnjoe1438 Posted October 16, 2016 #39 Share Posted October 16, 2016 (edited) The Bliss Lounge on Epic is FAR more spacious than on the Breakaway class ships. The design of the Bliss is far superior on the Epic. Now that they've taken out the bowling alley and turned it into a seating area... there's plenty of room for the place to be open when it needs to be. An expanded dance floor would have been nice in the last dry dock but in comparison to the Bliss on Breakaway - Epic's is HUGE!!! I liked the pooping dog. However, someone stole it's poop since I've sailed. It was just so random but amusing at the same time! :D The entertainment now on the Epic is the best in the fleet IMHO. The Cavern Club was a great addition (not a fan of Jazz). They finally ditched the Blue Man Group! That show has been running since I was a kid in Boston. Now they have Priscilla and Burn the Floor. Both are great shows!! Breakaway class shows in general are good! The Spice H2O is larger on the Epic than the Breakaway class ships and is tiered so you can see the screen better and keep people from forming large groups in that area with loungers. I like the Epic's design much better. That's about all I have! Hope you enjoy the Epic! :D Is there still a bowling alley on the Epic? Never mind, I found the answer Edited October 16, 2016 by debnjoe1438
ighten Posted October 16, 2016 #40 Share Posted October 16, 2016 (edited) Love the smaller venues like the cavern..... Love cagneys and the Bistro which have great window seating . The shows I have always found hit and miss - generally always miss (but tbf that apllies to any ship) What they really did get wrong though is the bar corridor and the horrible promenade deck.. As someone said before I think of the Epic as a trial ideas ship that they got right later on with the newer ships.. But still love her -the med itinerarys are good (especially those odd one offs after repositions). And I actually like the bathrooms idea.. It does make it easier in some ways and seems to add space. Would definatly not use her for a TA though. If you cant get on the deck enough on the Epic she will quickly feel like a one corridor prison. Bowling alleys still in O Shee but is gone from Bliss - TBF I cant ever remember anyone using it... Edited October 16, 2016 by ighten

Mr and Mrs C Posted October 17, 2016 #42 Share Posted October 17, 2016 Thanks everyone for all your feedback. I know we will miss the waterfront, but we probably only used it for 20 minutes a day. And the Epic pool deck does seem vastly superior. You have a balcony, so I wouldn't worry about it! I never noticed the lack of waterfront on the Epic, too many other things to do. FredZiffle Posted October 18, 2016 #47 Share Posted October 18, 2016 I had to read this thread to find out what people liked about the Epic. We sailed on her second cruise after launch, and it still remains the only ship we will never sail on again. It's good to see that so many of you have differing opinions from us. Larry6767 Posted October 19, 2016 #48 Share Posted October 19, 2016 What? They took out the bowling alley?!? It is in our brochure and we are sailing in 15 days. Just off the Epic last week, there's still a three lane bowling alley,7 dollars a person per string
IllinoisAuthor Posted October 20, 2016 #49 Share Posted October 20, 2016 We sailed on the Epic last month and loved it. The only thing we were disappointed with was the specialty restaurants. If you have a positive attitude, you will have a blast! What didn't you like about the specialty restaurants? DH and I are cruising in Feb and usually love to try them.
