Buckscuffle Posted October 28, 2016 #1 Share Posted October 28, 2016 I'm going on my first cruise end of November! My question is, do people take beach bags when they go to the pools? I know the towels are out there, but what about keeping my key, camera, clothes, book, etc. Or am I WAY overthinking this? Thanks! CruiserBruce Posted October 28, 2016 #2 Share Posted October 28, 2016 Yes, people do. Some cruise lines even give them away, usually to suite pax, or people who have cruise many times on that cruise line.
OCruisers Posted October 28, 2016 #3 Share Posted October 28, 2016 Yes, most people take beach bags to the pool to keep their "things" in. :)
cb at sea Posted October 28, 2016 #4 Share Posted October 28, 2016 I use a smaller tote....just enough space for sunscreen, book, hat, etc....
navybankerteacher Posted October 28, 2016 #5 Share Posted October 28, 2016 Not a silly question - actually one of the better first posts. It really depends - if my wife just wants to doze in the sun and cool off in the pool - no, she just carries a towel. Other times - with book, magazines, hat, sunblock, cover, etc. she'll fill hers and mine -

Sent from my SM-N920V using Forums mobile app I take a small tote bag with sunscreen, book, hat, etc in it. Not a silly question at all! I planned to do this on my first cruise and I, too, was concerned that I would look funny doing that. Lots of people are walking around with tote bags. maldenmusic Posted October 28, 2016 #7 Share Posted October 28, 2016 I always take a very small tote with me and keep my sunscreen, cup, book, etc.

traveler279 Posted October 29, 2016 #9 Share Posted October 29, 2016 I gave my "everything" bag. It's a 1/3 size Swiss Gear pack. Carry my camera, phone, ipad, money and such. Take it everywhere - pool, ports, tours. Works great for me. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Coton.Dog Posted November 2, 2016 #10 Share Posted November 2, 2016 Another silly question: When I am going to the pool, if I want to swim are my things safe by themselves on the pool lounger? Or should I leave my phone, wallet etc in my cabin? I come from a smaller town and want to know what I need to do since there will be so many people on the ship. CruiserBruce Posted November 2, 2016 #11 Share Posted November 2, 2016 (edited) Our phones and wallets stay in the safe in our cabin for 95% of the cruise. You don't need them around the ship. I wouldn't leave tablets, cameras, etc in plain view, but if you put them in a bag, or cover with a towel or blanket, you should be fine. Athlen Posted November 2, 2016 #12 Share Posted November 2, 2016 Lockers are available in most places. You may have to ask to find them and they may cost $5-10. But it's a safe and convenient place to store things when you're in the water, if you're concerned about leaving things on the beach.
Rare cruisegal40 Posted November 2, 2016 #13 Share Posted November 2, 2016 We use back packs. They can "hang" on the lounger and what ever in there will not get wet. We also have a dive bag that works good. I also have a small zip bag that I can "clip" to my bathing suit strap for when we go in the pool or to eat for the our key cards instead of carrying everything all over the place with us. Yes. we leave our items on our loungers. We are gone for less than 1/2 for lunch.

beachbum53 Posted November 2, 2016 #16 Share Posted November 2, 2016 Thanks so much! I will make sure to bring money for lockers. :) If your question was in regards to taking items to the pool on the ship, there are no lockers. As CruiserBruce suggested, leave your phone and wallet in your cabin's safe, unless you're planning to use your phone's camera to take pictures. I just completed my first cruise a few weeks ago and I had the same question when planning. We carried a small Gonex backpack to the pool and kept our dry stuff in it. Also used the same when going on shore excursions or to the beach.
ladycrz Posted November 3, 2016 #19 Share Posted November 3, 2016 It's also a good idea to keep your phone and key in a zip local bag. Was a life saver for me. Sent from my SM-G360T1 using Forums mobile app
Liz54 Posted November 3, 2016 #20 Share Posted November 3, 2016 Worth remembering that your key card is your wallet on a cruise. Do not leave the cabin without it. If we don't want to lug a tote and are just swimming we take our towels and key cards. If lounging, reading, eating & snoozing we take a bag. I never worry about my stuff on the pool deck of the ship. Some people put their cruise cards on a lanyard or bracelet. Then you can wear them IN the pool. rmurray847 Posted November 4, 2016 #21 Share Posted November 4, 2016 Thanks so much! I will make sure to bring money for lockers. :) I've only been on 4 different ships, so no expert...but I've never seen lockers. But what I do want to comment on, really, is your statement about bringing money. It takes a little getting used to, but other than at the casino, you don't need cash money for anything. You use the key card to pay for EVERYTHING. So start getting used to the idea that you can put your wallet and cash into your handy room safe, and on sea days, never touch them! It's very freeing. PrettyHazardous Posted November 4, 2016 #22 Share Posted November 4, 2016 So I mainly cruise Carnival and I don't do the pools, way too many ppl just the hot tubs. If hubby isn't sitting in a lounger I just take my keycard which is on a lanyard around my neck and my towel. Sometimes I take my tablet but I put it under the towel so it's not visible. navybankerteacher Posted November 4, 2016 #24 Share Posted November 4, 2016 Thanks for the clarification! There are no lockers (outside of the spa, on some ships) on any cruise ship I've sailed. At Half Moon Cay, and possibly other private islands, there were lockers- which took quarters- .

Sent from my SM-N920V using Forums mobile app I've had a saying my entire life,'The ONLY stupid question somebody has is the one they didn't ask'. We ALL have to ask to learn. Personally, the lanyard thingee (neck or wrist) for your keycard is a good idea. Leave everything else except book, sunglasses. and a light cover on your chair. HOPEFULY, those should be safe there.
