maxdude5 Posted November 2, 2016 #1 Share Posted November 2, 2016 Just posted on John Heald's facebook page: It looks like we have good news on ships being able to sail to Freeport again on the week of November 6th.
BoDidly Posted November 2, 2016 #2 Share Posted November 2, 2016 (edited) I've been to hurricane damaged ports when they first reopen :( .In my opinion they should have been left closed. They tell you not to leave the port area ,there is little to do in some ports. Your better off going to Key-West or a day at sea. cruzeluver Posted November 2, 2016 #4 Share Posted November 2, 2016 We like Freeport and hope we do get to make it there next week. Plenty to see and do there. But like most ports in The Bahamas and Caribbean, you have to get away from the lame port area. Beautiful beaches, great restaurants, resorts, a national forest and on and on and on. ATL_Miami_Cruiser Posted November 2, 2016 #8 Share Posted November 2, 2016 I used to write-off Freeport as useless until I booked the unlimited drink, buffet and beach excursion through Carnival. I enjoyed it and would return again. The only downside is that they leave the beach too early at 2pm.

I've never been to Freeport before. We were wanting just to go to a pretty beach and not do an excursion. Can you tell us what options there are and how far by taxi from the port? Thanks! cruzeluver Posted November 2, 2016 #10 Share Posted November 2, 2016 (edited) The taxi stand at the port can take you into town and the public beaches. The ride is not long, maybe 15 minutes? Communication from Carnival has gone out that Freeport is prepared to start accepting ships again. We are due to dock there next week (Tuesday the 8th) and they have confirmed we are a "go". BoDidly Posted November 2, 2016 #12 Share Posted November 2, 2016 (edited) The taxicabs going to Port Lucaya are paid upfront for going and returning, they give you a coupon for your return trip. They also have a shuttle service bus now where you hop on , hop off . Really not sure if anything other than the port area will be available . WayTooCool Posted November 2, 2016 #13 Share Posted November 2, 2016 The Little Woman and I love Freeport - we have a favorite place for conch fritters and Kalik beer. Port Lucaya shopping area is lots of good stuff in a do-able space. Don't waste a good port day!
