terry/marion Posted November 26, 2016 #1 Share Posted November 26, 2016 We are on the Discovery on the 12Th February to the Caribbean Just wondering if the safes are free ..as on previous Thomson ships we had to pay for them
suekay Posted November 26, 2016 #2 Share Posted November 26, 2016 They are pin code operated and were free when the ship was Royal Caribbean. No key involved so no work for guest relations. Surely Thomson wouldn't charge? !☺ Sent from my GT-P5210 using Forums mobile app

gillhalfpint Posted November 26, 2016 #4 Share Posted November 26, 2016 They are not all pin code operated on Discovery. Ours had note saying to lock it with a credit card being swiped across it. Luckily we learned that any card with a black strip would do, and we locked and opened it ok with a nectar card. Wanted our credit cards IN the safe not out of it. Safe free though. We were on deck 2 inside cabin. Gill

Pensioncruiser Posted November 26, 2016 #7 Share Posted November 26, 2016 If its anything like the one we have used in the past it is reset at the start of your holiday and will only work with the first card through Sent from my VF-895N using Forums mobile app
Sheila49 Posted November 26, 2016 #8 Share Posted November 26, 2016 We used our Tesco Clubcard. It will only open using the card you locked it with. Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app
28SAC Posted November 27, 2016 #9 Share Posted November 27, 2016 We opened and closed ours with our cabin door card, just seemed easier than keeping any other card with us, and it was free. SAC
gillhalfpint Posted November 27, 2016 #10 Share Posted November 27, 2016 The card swiped is the only one that will open and lock the safe. There is an option to swipe a second card, but we only had Ray's as he has all sorts of rubbish in his wallet.
Max011 Posted December 5, 2016 #11 Share Posted December 5, 2016 We are on the Discovery on the 12Th February to the Caribbean Just wondering if the safes are free ..as on previous Thomson ships we had to pay for them You simply use your door access card, swipe across safe, if open it closes and vice versa. Have a great cruise :D
Vitalsign Posted December 6, 2016 #12 Share Posted December 6, 2016 Surely if you lock it with your door card you wouldn't be covered by insurance for any losses for obvious reasons - you're not the only one with door access!!
Pensioncruiser Posted December 6, 2016 #13 Share Posted December 6, 2016 But you are the only one with that card the one used by the steward etc will have a different code and will not operate the safe. Vitalsign Posted December 6, 2016 #14 Share Posted December 6, 2016 How does she/he open the cabin door then? are you saying it's a universal card with a different code in the black strip? If so ok but I still think I'll use a nectar or Tesco club card and not the door card
Pensioncruiser Posted December 6, 2016 #15 Share Posted December 6, 2016 Yes they programme the card to open the cabins that the steward services, if you think about it yours will only open your cabin so it has a different programme to all the others, but I don't think you are wrong doing what you are comfortable with Sent from my VF-895N using Forums mobile app

Pensioncruiser Posted December 7, 2016 #19 Share Posted December 7, 2016 Strangely enough we have been looking at that TA for 2018 but never done one in the past, as I have said previously we just love the Caribbean and have done it for the past seven years but the return flight is now a bit much for us:(, even on the Dreamliner, so that may be an option for us as the flight out is fine. Will be looking as soon as the next brochure is out:D. PS I certainly would not use my credit/debit cards for the safe as they have to be inside as far as I am concerned. Think I used the boarding pass last time but it was a long time ago on Destiny;)

Just as a by the way have you checked out the prices on Discovery for 2018 the premium flight supplement has just gone up from £600 to £800:eek: which would make the cruise 6k for us. Checking our costs over the years our first Caribbean cruise was 4.5k and they have been fairly constant over the past eight years:rolleyes:
