MargoK Posted December 20, 2016 #1 Share Posted December 20, 2016 Well believe it or not we have accepted a great 'Move Over Offer'. Accepted because we have done this cruise before on the Golden Princess and were boarding from our home port. Great offer, and I believe they are frantically trying to finalise the offers and there seems to have been a lot offered and accepted! Cruise fare as refundable onboard credit Free cruise up to 14 days anywhere in the world Upgraded Premium Cabin to Club Class Mini Suite 2 x Speciality Dinners $$$ for incidental expenses Now what to decide on! :D:eek::D

GUT2407 Posted December 20, 2016 #5 Share Posted December 20, 2016 What's a move over offer? I'm new to this forum.... Sent from my iPad using Forums Welcome to Cruise Critic. A move over offer is when the line overlooks and offers some passengers great deal to change to a different cruise. As you see in this case it basically means a free cruise, plus some little extras like free specialty restaurant visit and upgrade to a mini suite, as well as covering the cost of flights and hotels that were non refundable. Most people can't take it as they have limited time off work. On my Kats cruise there were some downgrade offers, they involved going from a balcony to an ocean view with half the cost of the cruise refunded, easier to accept as dates remain the same. mrs and mrs Posted December 20, 2016 #6 Share Posted December 20, 2016 (edited) What's a move over offer? I'm new to this forum.... Sent from my iPad using Forums I think, cancel your cruise that you have booked and paid for, and this is what we will offer you. Because they over-booked. By the way welcome to C/C. MargoK Posted December 20, 2016 Author #8 Share Posted December 20, 2016 Wow! Good offer. How long was this cruise? Sent from my iPhone using Forums The original cruise was 13 nights out of Auckland, our home town. We were offered the same last year too, but we were flying to Melbourne to catch the cruise so were not interested.
Cruisegroover Posted December 20, 2016 #9 Share Posted December 20, 2016 A friend of mine got an offer today for Sea Princess ex Brisbane 28 Dec. Same deal as above. Not so good when they say refund is OBC on the next cruise. She is travelling solo so there is no way she would use that cost as OBC given she paid a premium for solo use. The_Big_M Posted December 20, 2016 #12 Share Posted December 20, 2016 The OBC is refundable after the next cruise. It doesn't need to be spent! Yeah, still a (potential) refund, you just don't get it straightaway. It'd give you some massive OBC on that cruise though! Mostly fine as long as: a) Princess don't go bankrupt b) you're not short on the cash in the meantime

Cruise fare as refundable onboard credit Free cruise up to 14 days anywhere in the world Upgraded Premium Cabin to Club Class Mini Suite 2 x Speciality Dinners $$$ for incidental expenses A really good offer - I can see why so many would accept if it fit their plans. Bit of a worry that they have to make so many offers though... what's going on at Princess booking HQ?

RubySlippers85 Posted January 3, 2017 #18 Share Posted January 3, 2017 Got a downgrade offer today... down from Balcony to Oceanview and 50% of fare back as refundable OBC. As it's a 14 day cruise I'm really torn! How different is the experience from balcony to oceanview? (I'm a newbie to cruising)

sewgood Posted January 3, 2017 #21 Share Posted January 3, 2017 Rubyslippers do let us know what you choose to do. What a dilemma. To down grade to an oceanview (which are ok cabins) or stay in your balcony and know that you could have gotten half the fare back as OBC. You will have to think about how much time you would actually spend on the balcony and do you need that fresh outside air. What line are you travelling on? Is this downgrade offer a new thing for the cruise lines to offer? I haven't come across it before.

I decided to take the offer - as a solo-traveller I did pay quite a bit for the balcony so getting some $$ back works for me. Should be interesting! Russell21 Posted January 3, 2017 #24 Share Posted January 3, 2017 I'd take the downgrade and live it up. Bingo, Speciality restaurant, good wine, I think we could find compensation with half our original fare as OBC. :D:D:D
