LizzyDragon Posted December 20, 2016 #1 Share Posted December 20, 2016 I'm looking into options for getting a group of 10 people from the Deland/Deltona area down to Tampa for a cruise in April. So far, doing something like a private shuttle/limo/party bus may end up being too expensive (around $45-60pp one-way). But Amtrak is around $20, so I want to present this as an option to the group. My concern is getting from the station to the port- it looks walkable but wanted to know if anyone has tried this yet. I'm open to other suggestions as well for getting a group to Tampa. taylor1293 Posted December 20, 2016 #2 Share Posted December 20, 2016 (edited) I think as long as you don't have to carry anything (use backpacks, suitcases with wheels) you could walk it. It's not too terribly far. The other option would be uber from the train station to the port for those who may not be able to make the walk. beargrass1 Posted December 20, 2016 #3 Share Posted December 20, 2016 If I remember correctly the taxi rate for the downtown zone is $5.00 per cab. Of course you will have to have more than one cab, but they are at the station waiting for trains to unload.
raindropsalways Posted December 21, 2016 #4 Share Posted December 21, 2016 It is an easy trip if you do not have an abundance of luggage. We cannot walk, however we made the trip on our mobility scooters. If you wanted to save some walking distance, just take E. Twiggs St. to Channelside Dr. and take the light rail from Port Authority Station to Cumberland Station. That would get you close to either Terminal and cut your walking distance to about half. The light rail is $2.50 per person or $1.25 for seniors (65), youth (under 17) or HC. Have a wonderful cruise, Betty
LizzyDragon Posted December 21, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted December 21, 2016 Thanks for the feedback, all. I travel light, but not sure if the rest of the group will or not, so the info on alternates is fantastic.
tompeter Posted December 21, 2016 #6 Share Posted December 21, 2016 If you are thinking the same day as boarding the ship, you need good backup plan. There is always a possibility that the train, which comes from New York, could be 3-4 hours late...then what?
