YoHoHo Posted January 5, 2017 #26 Share Posted January 5, 2017 AFAIK you still get an OBC for the PPG Loyalty benefit when they were included in the O Life deal at least we did ...it may not be the full amount I cannot recall as we also got PPG from our TA as well lots of shopping on that trip :D Thanks. Good to know O gave double-dip so no loss of reward but still get the promo benefit. Glad you were able to survive all that OBC - what a problem :)
YoHoHo Posted January 5, 2017 #27 Share Posted January 5, 2017 thrilled with my flights! My TA called me with Oceania air dept. on hold and we had a three way conversation. Before I even mentioned the flights I wanted they were offered albeit with a $100.00 up charge pp. We fly Vancouver to Heathrow non stop Air Canada and return flight is Lufthasa,Copenhagen to Munich, then non stop to Vancouver. my only concern was that the connecting time in Munich is very tight but the rep from Oceania assured me it is only a gate change, (Security done in Copenhagen ) and we arrive in same terminal. She stated Munick airport is compact and we should be fine. Would have likened a little broader margin but she was adamant it would work. Anyway thanks for all the help,oh and she even did seat selection for us so all is done! thanks again I like those polar route flights. That long leg is all 'international ' and so much better than cross-country domestic and then change planes for over the water. The polar route is faster and more comfortable. Excellent that you got the flights you want, seats booked and now just looking forward to blue skies. Enjoy your cruise (and the flights).

I would suggest you explore this website: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/lufthansa-austrian-swiss-brussels-lot-other-partners-miles-more/749463-connecting-muc-munich-connection-q-thread-merged.html especially the full WIKI and the last few pages (more recent). If you have any questions, you can ask there. These are experinecd LH flyers who will know the answer much better than the O air department (with all due respect). atlantic cruiser Posted January 6, 2017 Author #31 Share Posted January 6, 2017 Thanks Paul, took a look at that site and still not sure We have 40 minutes between flights but if the rep at Oceania is incorrect and it is NOT just a gate but also a passport check, could be huge problem. ON the flyer talk site 40 minutes is considered ample but I am now worried if we have to find another area other than the gate for passport check. Apparently this connection time is routine???!!!! Will email my TA to see if she can find out more. Thanks for the alert.
Paulchili Posted January 6, 2017 #32 Share Posted January 6, 2017 It would be too tight for my comfort - everything has to be perfect. OTOH, the airline booked it for you - should you miss the connection, they are responsible for getting you home. In this direction you have more leeway as you are not concerned about misssing the ship :) Good luck

Paulchili Posted January 6, 2017 #35 Share Posted January 6, 2017 (edited) Paul do you know if we go through customs and security in Copenhagen would we likely have to repeat this in Munich before departing for Vancouver? I am not sure so I don't want to mislead you but I recall going through security (not passport) changing planes at FRA - even though we were deplaning from one plane and going to another gate. MUC may be different. I think you should pose this very specific question on the forum I quoted. Give the arrival flight and departure flight (and times) and someone will have the answers re: passport and security checks for you (and whether there is a terminal or just a gate change). Somehow I am thinking - but not certain - that by flying to N. America you may have to show passport again as well (more likely for US departures as security tends to be very tight) Edited January 6, 2017 by Paulchili
atlantic cruiser Posted January 6, 2017 Author #36 Share Posted January 6, 2017 Thanks for your I put Lynn. I am still unclear if we would have to go through passport control in Munich. Realize customs would be Vancouver. if we do have to then I will take this up with the air dept. as they assured me just a gate change. my sister and I are seniors, with slight mobility issues and we sure couldn't run to make it to the gate if we have to do passport control prior. I would never have accepted these flights with a passport control on such a tight layover.
Paulchili Posted January 6, 2017 #37 Share Posted January 6, 2017 Sometimes with tight connections there may be airline personnel waiting for you and speed you through check points (if any). Make sure you sit as far in front as you can so you can deplane fast!
atlantic cruiser Posted January 6, 2017 Author #38 Share Posted January 6, 2017 Thanks Paul, good advise. I am laying this in the hands of my TA and will also phone Lufthansa. atlantic cruiser Posted January 6, 2017 Author #40 Share Posted January 6, 2017 As an aside I emailed Munich airport which explained,if any delays on inbound flight you are met by LH internal staff that escort you privately to passport control and then your gate via a special ramp!? Anyway my flights areFlt Lufthansa.2443 from Copenhagen departs1:05 p.m arrives in Munich at 2:40 pm. Flat Lufthansa 0476 departs 3:25 p.m. Arriving in Vancouver at 4:55p.m. Thanks for your help. The email I mentioned stated the Munich airport prides themselves on quick connection and has this special service in place if you are delayed. Very official soundingLOL
Paulchili Posted January 6, 2017 #41 Share Posted January 6, 2017 I cannot determine the gates but they both arrive and leave from Terminal 2 - so no change of terminals - only gates. Sounds like you should be OK.
atlantic cruiser Posted January 6, 2017 Author #42 Share Posted January 6, 2017 Thank you for checking. I think I mentioned finding an email site for the Munich airport and they contacted me and assured me there is a shortcut route that passengers are taken on to their gate if there arrival is at all delayed. Said they routinely do 40 minute layovers with no problems so will think positively! Thanks again.
Rare ORV Posted January 7, 2017 #43 Share Posted January 7, 2017 Above certain loyalty level (Gold?) one does not pay deviation fee.PS They weren't taken away - OP just implies that they would be taken away if deviation fee for early arrival were to be waived for everyone. That's my guess Sorry if my ramblings were unclear. Paulchilli's guess is correct. A benefit at Gold level one gets "Two complimentary Custom Air fee waivers ". So if O included day before deviation for free it would diminish the value of this reward. Edit: oh, and the "yet another benefit" would be that for example, O-life promo including Gratuities that is a benefit of Silver level now. (fighting with tablet keyboard and edit time) personally I don't care what benefits others get or don't. just happy to get what I can and sail away. Pretty much like the internet discounts for different loyalty levels. With the OLife promos everyone seems to get unlimited internet(which I'm on right now on Marina, quite adequate by the way) which makes the discounts as a perk moot. This might be something that could be re-thought.
Sabbycat Posted January 8, 2017 #44 Share Posted January 8, 2017 Normally Oceania purchases the pre-booked tickets about 45 days out from sailing. I usually ask for the tickets to be paid as soon as I make final payment- then I will do the seat assignment/upgrades myself directly with the airline, usually within 24 hours after the request to Oceania to buy the tickets. When you do this, you have more responsibilities if you need to change/cancel the ticket. You mention doing the upgrade dire tly with the airline. How do you usually find the cost and ease of this. I kow for AC to upgrade to business you have to have purchased the highest coach fare.
