AuNPawz Posted January 20, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 20, 2017 Trying to decide what to do on the 6 sea days in a row on our first transatlantic cruise. Thinking of going on April 8 - 22 from Ft. Lauderdale to Southhampton (London). Can't imagine going to art auctions 6 days in a row! Will they bring on special speakers or have any other activities other than bridge and bingo?? Any help will be appreciated!
craftygrandma Posted January 20, 2017 #2 Share Posted January 20, 2017 I always take yarn to work on crafts, some people read. There are plenty of activities planned, for different interests. We find it quite relaxing.
Thrak Posted January 20, 2017 #3 Share Posted January 20, 2017 We don't need a lot of excitement on sea days. Love to sit on deck or on the balcony and read. Love to watch the sea. It can be fascinating. There is entertainment in the piazza and Wheelhouse. There is likely trivia and other activities in Explorers. In the evening there are shows to go to or movies to watch on MUTS. Our next cruise has a total of 18 sea days. We aren't worried about having nothing to do. We are never bored onboard. Alessandrina Posted January 20, 2017 #6 Share Posted January 20, 2017 Relax, read, watch films, play Trivia twice per day, walk around the Promenade deck, go to a lecture, Afternoon Tea, etc. Lots to do or nothing to do!

Any help will be appreciated! Some of the normal activities. Not all activities will be on every cruise. Trivia twice, maybe even 3 times a day Bingo (fee) Zumba Fitness center Pop Choir Voice of the Ocean Cards and games Lectures, port and educational Movies Some crafts (usually a fee) Sit and read Some poolside activities during the first few days when it is warm Cooking demos Silly games in the Piazza area Afternoon Tea Lunch in the DR Horse Racing (fee) Casino if you wish to donate Afternoon music or performance in the Piazza Ballroom and line dancing The Spa if you wish to indulge and pay the fees Plus all the normal evening shows and activities. We have been on a three T.A's and other cruises with lots and lots of sea days. Never, not once, have we found it necessary to go to the art sales. There is always something else. jagsfan Posted January 20, 2017 #8 Share Posted January 20, 2017 I asked my Roll Call if anyone wanted to play Bunco. Started with 4 tables. We had a meeting room and the tables were set up with tablecloths, we had pitchers of water and iced tea. I brought dice, a bell and index cards and off we went. Problem was with word of mouth we grew to 8 tables and I disbanded it after 4 days. We sure had fun those 4 days, though. Geez Louise, Sknight. I was going to suggest just a few things. You have got everything covered outside of getting a cheesey watch on $10 sale day. StLouisCruisers Posted January 20, 2017 #11 Share Posted January 20, 2017 I bring my cross stitch project and get together with all the knitters/crocheters/etc. to talk and work on our projects. If someone asks the cruise director, they can set up and time and place, put it in the Patter, and you can go from there. We usually set it up on our roll call first. cb at sea Posted January 21, 2017 #13 Share Posted January 21, 2017 What is your reason for cruising? Most TA folks love "down time"...they want to relax and not adhere to a schedule. If you like activities, and being "on the go"...don't do a TA! There are other cruises and/or vacations more suited to someone who want action! EightFurryPaws Posted January 21, 2017 #14 Share Posted January 21, 2017 Here's my thoughts... I always to a trans-atlantic in the fall from Europe back to FLL. My reasons are I would much rather have the long flight before the cruise than after. Having the five or six sea days at the end of a port intensive cruise is like having another weeks vacation at a resort to relax or join in the ships activities after a post intensive trip. Also, on the TA, each day the clock goes back one hour, so when you arrive back in the US, you are on the same time, without any jet lag. When going US to Europe, the clocks go forward every night, and cruisers say, with the anticipation of getting to Europe, and loosing time every day, they are exhausted before the excursions even begin. My wife tends to bring her tatting as it's small and easy to pack. (Sadly she left it in Alaska last time. D'Oh!) She likes to attend the morning Knitters and Natters get together to hang out with the others who do various types of hand work. She has met some very nice folks that way. muggo11 Posted January 21, 2017 #17 Share Posted January 21, 2017 Oh, how I adore sea days. I splurge on The Sanctuary, put on some headphones, sob to Adele, watch the ocean, read, write and enjoy the delivery of liquor, lunch and afternoon tea. I read 10 books on our TA. I love, love, love sea days. No voice to listen to except for mine. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

One around 9-9:45, another about 11:45, one at 4, and again at 7-ish. If you enjoy reading, bring your own book or e-reader. The libraries on the Princess ships leave much to be desired. I said with the time change and the anticipation of arriving in Europe, some cruisers are exhausted when docking at their first port.
Knickearth Posted January 21, 2017 #21 Share Posted January 21, 2017 We have done several transatlantic trips as well as Hawaii (5 sea days each way) and recently I believe 8 sea days doing the South Pacific. That said, I can honestly say it depends on the ship. We did the Royal a few years ago and that was fantastic for activities for sea days. They did an Olympics competition on sea days as well as a special progressive team trivia daily. That Cruise Director was phenomenal. The recent South Pacific on the Crown was a disappointment. They added nothing to a regular schedule and with 8 days at sea, we kept busy but would have loved the social events more. I don't remember what the Caribbean Princess did on at sea days as we had so much go wrong on that trip (two couples had to fly home, some woman had to be helicoptered off, lots of flu onboard, etc. Hope for a good cruise director
Aaronmaissell Posted January 21, 2017 #22 Share Posted January 21, 2017 Wow! There are so much to do on a sea day. Check the schedule. I am a people watcher! There is music playing all the time. Sit in a chair, read a book and enjoy your cruise. No need to be bored! Go out on the deck and watch the waves! It is fun no matter what you do Relax and enjoy this wonderful vacation! Check out the Roll Call: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2335034 There seems to be a little something for almost everyone especially if you like to play Trivia. Also, access the spreadsheet that has been put together showing excursions, Meet and Greets, etc. What would you like to do? Get a group together! We're on this cruise, our first TA, and are looking forward to meeting new people, taking a leisurely cruise (no long flight to board the ship in Southampton), and catching up on our reading. We make our own fun. Linda B.
Thrak Posted February 1, 2017 #24 Share Posted February 1, 2017 I mentioned this thread to my wife. She laughed and said she is not at all worried about the 18 sea days on our next cruise but the one after that - 14 days with 10 ports - has her a bit worried that it will be too hectic and that only 4 sea days may well not be enough down time to relax properly. :) She agreed with me that we should do several "just beach" days rather then running around "doing stuff" in every port.
