Underwatr Posted January 28, 2017 #30 Share Posted January 28, 2017 I don't think I've ever seen anyone wear a tie with a polo shirt. That wasn't the issue, nor is a tie required on informal night. It may not be your (or my) sartorial cup of tea, but it nominally meets the requirement and as such is suitable for a discussion of "What is the most casual men's clothing I can wear on Queen Victoria Britannia Room?" minz56 Posted January 28, 2017 #36 Share Posted January 28, 2017 NO!! Polo shirts are just jumped-up T-shirts. When Cunard states "shirts" it means a proper shirt with a real collar, capable of maintaining a tie if desired. The informal dress code only states that a tie is optional. It makes no reference to the need for a shirt. To the OP: A polo shirt would be fine IMHO, particularly on the first and last nights.
AWillie Posted January 28, 2017 #37 Share Posted January 28, 2017 We have done seven or eight TA crossing on the QM2. On some crossing it is Tux with hand tied bow-ties on formal night and ties with jackets on informal nights. Other times 70% dark suits on formal night and 70% jacket without ties on informal night. The dreaded jeans occasionally appear in casino after 10 PM.

Maybe no one cares, but a Gieves & Hawkes bespoke dinner suit would stand out as class, a £50 one would say Moss Bros IMO. David
rvmike Posted January 29, 2017 #39 Share Posted January 29, 2017 . I had a company in the marine service industry for 20 years. 80% of my customers where either doctors, lawyers or bank managers. They always had great suits and never paid the bill or the credit card declined. The average guy in sweats always paid cash and was happy. It was a small marina and all the other vendors stayed in touch. Some never got service again unless it was cash. If you look at people by the clothes they wear you have no clue. gwenmarie Posted January 29, 2017 #40 Share Posted January 29, 2017 We were on the QM2 first world cruise a few years ago , the first segment Florida to San Francisco around the horn. The cruise was about 30 nights and all but 3 or 4 were formal. The first and last night were the ONLY casual nights. My spouse will not do another Cunard although we loved the ship and itinerary Sent from my iPhone using Forums

When Cunard states "shirts" it means a proper shirt with a real collar, capable of maintaining a tie if desired. My dear wife bought me a polo shirt many years ago which I only wore once as I did not like the style. However I did find some use for it when polishing the car. It did make a brilliant polisher and lasted me for many years. I also found it very useful for mopping up a small oil spill in my garage. ( I had of course cut it into sections ). My wife of course was NOT amused.

And what may I ask is wrong with that ? why pay 100's of pounds for a garment that will in some cases only be worn for about 6 or 7 evenings every couple of years.
