trish4bruce Posted November 5, 2017 #2226 Share Posted November 5, 2017 I am sure this is already answered but I couldn’t find the answer. Can you bid on a upgrade if in a studio? Sent from my iPhone using Forums
garycarla Posted November 5, 2017 #2227 Share Posted November 5, 2017 Do you know if there is any type of discount when you upgrade. Dollar-wise what's the difference in upgrade vs bid ??? If you do a paid upgrade, you pay the current rate. You know exactly how much. You know what cabin. If you do a bid upgrade you: - might get an upgrade, you might not - they will pick the room - the cost is unknown. You win if you bid $1 more than the other person (in most cases), and do not win if somebody else bids more. Need for your current type of cabin might change this, but all things equal - the highest bid wins.

Nola26 Posted November 5, 2017 #2229 Share Posted November 5, 2017 (edited) Alright I finally took the plunge: I bid on an upgrade to Balcony from Mid Ship Inside for the 11/19 Dawn I did not offer a bid on the Ocean View I'm sailing solo and chose to bid the minimum. 901yvonet Posted November 5, 2017 #2231 Share Posted November 5, 2017 How many of you are in the group? We sailed 4 (2 kids) in OS on POA. There are several versions of OS on POA. Some have whirlpool tubs on balcony and 1.5 baths. Ours had bedroom with solid doors to separate from living room which is the bedroom for pax 3-4. So no, no separate room like the 2BR but a very nice room, very large, and extra perks. There is 4 of us cruising. I did have another look and saw that the OS rooms are very roomy and I can see how it could be deemed an upgrade...My problem is hubby is a chronic snorer and if I don't have a room to lock him away in and the kids in the other....well I may end up throwing hubby overboard ;p Thanks for pointing out the extra perks of the OS, it makes sense why I was offered that as an upgrade now. lhorne Posted November 5, 2017 #2232 Share Posted November 5, 2017 We recently went on a NCL Baltic Cruise. When I booked, I asked for a quote on a 2 bed suite in the Haven. The price was outrageous. We did book a standard suite and was happy to see the 'upgrade option' after booking. I bid the absolute minimum amount of $750CDN per person. It was only three days before cruising that I got email confirmation that the upgrade had gone through. I have to say, it was well worth the money and I ended up saving a ton of money this way. The two bedroom suite was awesome and well worth it. I think it's all up to availability and getting the most money they can. I'd do that option again, instead of paying upfront. I made a video of the Haven which I have just put on YouTube if you want to see the room. :p

Good Luck! Smart move, if you really do not want an OV, don't bid on one... go right for the balcony. I hope you are successful. The balconies on the Dawn are worth the extra $$. Years ago when we had an inside cabin. The guy next to us would retire early, then snore loudly. Around 4 AM a person would come into the cabin. Snoring stops. A person would leave that cabin. Still no snoring. We conjectured the wife would play in the casino. Hubby had his sleep period. Time to leave. Now it was her turn to sleep. I know this does not help your current situation. I hope you get your bid.

flasaltwater63 Posted November 5, 2017 #2243 Share Posted November 5, 2017 We got an offer to upgrade about 2 months ago but we ignored it. Last weekend we got an email for Upgrade Advantage we made an offer on 2 Haven suites, we'll see what happens. We bid higher then the lowest allowed amount but not by a lot.... We are currently in an Aft Balcony. I'm starting to get excited I would love to be in a Haven Suite but never really thought about booking one. The way were looking at it if we get it then it only cost us an extra 1200 if not then more money to spend on vacation. : )

We were booked in an aft balcony and went into the bid process with the same mindset! We ended up getting upgraded to the aft penthouse for only 1200. We sail on Dec 30th and are over the moon excited! 54 days, 19 hrs, 43 minutes...but who’s counting?! ;p

FLcruisergrl Posted November 5, 2017 #2246 Share Posted November 5, 2017 Congratulations, we sail November the 25th on the Epic. I literally check my email everyday but as soon as I find out if NCL excepts our offer Ill post it here. We have 20 days to go and counting LOL I logged in every day to check my bid. My first clue was that the bid couldn’t be modified. Then, I checked my cabin number on myNCL and it had changed. It’s a good thing I was so obsessed, because we never did get the email actually saying that our bid was accepted!
garycarla Posted November 5, 2017 #2247 Share Posted November 5, 2017 ...im assuming that if there are bids rejected, that category is completely booked? ... but has anyone with rejected bids actually checked to see if the category they bid on was actually sold out? They do not actually REJECT any bids. You either put in a bid, or not. Once you put in the bid, at some point, they look at all the bids given and then "award" the upgrade to some people. If you do not get an upgrade, it is not rejected. Just somebody else had a higher bid and they got the room. And, at some point they run out of that category and no more people get rooms. Yes, some times a category could show as sold out. But then the person in the balcony gets a suite, and that balcony is now open. (or they have a last minute cancel) It may never show as open because they filled it with someone from inside or OV that bid. And again, the highest bid wins.
