SNJCruisers Posted April 13, 2017 #351 Share Posted April 13, 2017 I guess I've never been on a cruise that had an aft only adult pool. But that is a great idea. And they are going to change it? The Triumph, which you have cruised on twice according to your signature was one of 7 ships in the fleet that had it. It was basically the ships that went from 103-113,000 tons in size. Those that are larger than the Sunshine (Destiny) and smaller than the Dream class.
SNJCruisers Posted April 13, 2017 #352 Share Posted April 13, 2017 Was the $45.00 charge for your flight a misprint? After doing a quick google search, they do offer free airfare on some itineraries, so the 45.00 is probably RT taxes.
SNJCruisers Posted April 13, 2017 #353 Share Posted April 13, 2017 There are many aspects of cruising in general that are easy to get a handle on fairly quickly, even after only one or two cruises. Even before any cruises at all, if you choose to do the research.. Long-time, experienced cruisers aren't the only ones who can answer general questions about cruising. After only one cruise, I've been able to answer a lot of questions. . You were lucky that you were able to do research. That is why I brought up the lesson about the internet being invented 3 years after my first cruise. The only research that could be done was whatever information you could get from your Liberty Travel travel agent who probably never even went on a cruise and was just regurgitating information from a cruise brochure. The only reason I am on these boards is to "pay it forward". I educate some people that may have a question about a cruise line, a port, an excursion, an all inclusive port day, dining packages etc. Having been doing this for over 30 years and having sailed in various types of cabins on half a dozen cruise lines means that I can compare different ships, cabins and itineraries that someone who has only cruised once or twice can't do. You can answer many general questions based upon your cruising experience, whereas I can answer more specific ones based upon my cruising experience. I'm sorry that I hit a nerve with the lido embarkation drink thing and I certainly do not want to come across as looking down my nose because 29 cruises over 31 years is a mere drop in the bucket compared to many other people on these boards that also like to "pay it forward". Computer Nerd Posted April 13, 2017 #354 Share Posted April 13, 2017 Because she not the one who has a problem with the new rule! If carnival was not family friendly I would choose another. You should boycott, please Really? I find your statement interesting since you took half of your cruises on Carnival prior to the rule change and both on a ship that still has an adult pool. So it seems to me that you considered Carnival family friendly enough prior to the change. How ironic.
Cyber Kat Posted April 13, 2017 #355 Share Posted April 13, 2017 Was the $45.00 charge for your flight a misprint? No - they frequently have good airfare deals if you book your air with them also. Two other cruises we are looking at include FREE airfare, but the "2 for 1" pricing is standard. I don't know why they price their cruises like that but they do. BusyBlond Posted April 13, 2017 #358 Share Posted April 13, 2017 same here. I was pricing cruises for next year, and Celebrity (which also prices in Canadian dollars for us), and included standard beverage package plus wifi, worked out to be just a couple of hundred dollars more than Carnival. I also am wanting to try NCL newer ships with solo cabins. I know Carnival is really trying to draw in the families and market itself as the family cruise line, but they are sure not doing much to draw me back. Sorry for the negative, but is just the way I feel about it. Just recently did a cruise in an NCL solo cabin. It was amazing, can't wait to do it again. 😉 Sent from my XT1080 using Forums mobile app

Mamalocs Posted April 13, 2017 #360 Share Posted April 13, 2017 No reason to sigh.....the Conquest is going into dry dock in September and coming out with a glorious new Serenity area with pool according to JH. That will make it only the third ship in the fleet to have a Serenity pool besides the Pride and the Sunshine. Wow, I truly look forward to this! Just a note: According to Carnival's website, all Spirit-class ships have a Serenity pool (Legend, Miracle, Pride and Spirit) which makes a total of 5 with Sunshine, fleet-wide. Although I realize Spirit only sails from Sidney and Legend from Sidney & Honolulu - which leaves only 3 with Serenity pools that depart from CONUS ports (soon to be 4 w/Conquest after Sept). I haven't tried a Spirit class yet but look forward in the near future. Happy sailing everyone!! Organized Chaos Posted April 13, 2017 #363 Share Posted April 13, 2017 (edited) I think it's funny how everyone says there are plenty of places for kids to go. Where? Inside a dark room with movies and video games? I don't want my kids spending their only vacation doing the same things they can do at home for free. My kids don't even like the clubs and have no desire to make new besties on vacation. They want to be out in the sun enjoying the pool because it's the only time each year they have access to one. We don't have a home pool or a community pool and they look forward to spending a lot of time in the water. I don't find it a hardship to sit there with my Kindle and watch out for them either. I didn't even know there were adult pools, never been on a ship with one, but having only 2 pools it just seems weird to restrict hundreds of passengers from 1 of them. I don't limit them to the pools. They DO NOT LIKE THE CLUBS!!!! They went on our first cruise and have never returned. They don't need me to make them go anywhere. It is their vacation as well and we enjoy spending time together. I know, hard to believe since so many parents here feel like they have to get away from their own kids. Must be something they are doing wrong if they feel that way. Don't worry though I guess we are ok with our 2 pools because we don't cruise on those crappy older ships anyway. First of all, just because your kids don't like to participate in many of the activities that are designated FOR KIDS doesn't mean there aren't plenty of places for kids. There are, your kids simply choose not to go there. Even though there are plenty of places adults can go that are adult-only, only a few of them (across a couple dozen ships) now include a pool. Having adults-only pools prior to this policy change didn't hurt kids' opportunities to have fun. On the other hand, taking them away does severely restrict options for adults to enjoy a pool without kids. Also, it doesn't make us bad parents for wanting to get away from kids now & again. Even our own. A vast majority of parents want a break once in a while. To say there's anything wrong with that is ridiculous. Because she not the one who has a problem with the new rule! If carnival was not family friendly I would choose another. You should boycott, pleaseYou were in another thread the other day calling people "hateful" just because they said kids scream, yell, and splash. So if the kids are screaming, yelling, and splashing, what exactly are we supposed to say? And since you're so quick to tell others to leave Carnival, I guess it's fair to tell you that if you love family-friendly so much, maybe you should try Disney. KatieCharlotte Posted April 13, 2017 #364 Share Posted April 13, 2017 I will make a deal with all of you who want adult-only pools. During the daytime, you can have the main lido pool, where people save all the loungers at 7 a.m. so parents can't watch their kids, music is blasting on full volume all day, and, most importantly, the afternoon features PG-13/R rated "contests" that seem to require strangers to grind against each other. The lack of a peaceful (in our opinion) family-friendly aft pool was the one thing my kids didn't like about the Sunshine, but at least it has a nice sports deck and waterworks. Because my kids, oddly enough, like to be having fun outdoors while on a cruise rather than being cooped up in the indoor clubs. On ships without a sports deck and extensive waterworks, the aft pool is a nice place for families to hang out. I was fine with avoiding the ships that had adult-only aft pools (although really, they needed to make up their mind about Victory!), but all of us who are happy about the change should speak our minds too. KatieCharlotte Posted April 13, 2017 #365 Share Posted April 13, 2017 Someone needs to send this picture to Carnival and John Heald! Well, JH is always going to say that surveys support whatever change Carnival feels like making, but I'm going to guess that the diverse experiences regarding the use of adult pools may be related to the weather during the cruise. The Sunshine pool was empty during most of my cruise, except when the brisk wind stopped and the air warmed up. I find that adults like to cool off in pools when it's actually hot out, while kids will play in unheated pools as long as it's at least 60 degrees outside. SCAnthony Posted April 13, 2017 #368 Share Posted April 13, 2017 Since kids are full fare on carnival maybe they should demand a kids only pool! Seriously though, if you don't wanna be around kids why would you ever want to go on a family friendly cruise line anyway? I personally enjoy seeing my kids(and others) having a good time. We have been on just a couple of cruises but I never noticed any problems caused by any age children. Saw some drunk @&*^%'s in the casino and bars, but not problem from the kids. It's just that we like to have one small pool with no kids. Which up until now on certain ships were already there. It's really pretty simple. Free airfare when you're paying $3k a person for a 7 night cruise simply means the airfare was included in the price. The company did not eat the cost of the airfare.
