Onagh Posted April 27, 2017 #551 Share Posted April 27, 2017 It has everything to do with it! With removing the pools we have no where to find respite! It's bad enough as it is with the Precious running everywhere... the aft & 21+ are really the only spaces to escape! Whether the drinking age is 18, 21, if someone is in the military, a parent wants to give their under 21 child a drink because it's legal back home, etc has zero to do with the adults only pool now being open to everyone. The drinking rules are the rules and have no relation to this subject. Drinking age has been 21 on Carnival for as long as I can remember. The 2 subjects are not intertwined. Computer Nerd Posted April 27, 2017 #553 Share Posted April 27, 2017 I believe you can sign a waiver and your 18 year old can drink beer and maybe wine in your presence. I believe you have to purchase and serve though. Sorry. that's on Norwegian, not Carnival.
Computer Nerd Posted April 27, 2017 #554 Share Posted April 27, 2017 Nope...Carnival has a 21 policy...no exceptions when sailing from a US port. May be different for international departures. European departures is 18. Don't know about Ozzie departures.

Warm Breezes Posted April 28, 2017 #559 Share Posted April 28, 2017 At least they have an adults only pool on their newest ship, the Escape. Sent from my XT1254 using Forums mobile app Yes but if you read the NCL boards there is nothing but complaints on how small all the pools and pool areas are on the Escape for the size of the ship. It is one of the few negative things I have been reading about the Escape and I have doing a lot of research on Escape since I am sailing on her in Sept. Doesn't matter to me. I plan on lounging on my angled balcony and avoiding that deck as much as possible.

Lucked out and got Vibe passes..had a blast. Howl at the Moon is better than Carnivals piano bar and their comedy club takes reservations so you don't have to waste a half hour in line. Check out the live review by TheDougOut, best I've read on CC. Sent from my XT1254 using Forums mobile app

Sent from my XT1254 using Forums mobile app Believe I've read it and anything else I could find on the Escape. Excited to be cruising on her. It's funny because we are sailing on one of NCL's newest and biggest ships in September for 7 days with an angled balcony, UBP, and 4 meal SDP and then 3 weeks later we are sailing on Carnival Fantasy, Carnivals oldest and smallest ship for 5 days with a Porthole room. I don't think I will have a problem managing my expectations considering we are paying almost 4 times more for our Escape cruise than we are for Fantasy cruise which we got a Casino deal too good to pass up. I'm really looking forward to both.
nealstuber Posted April 29, 2017 #563 Share Posted April 29, 2017 (edited) That's where the teenagers that hang off the sides of railings belong. Maybe then they'll think twice before trying to impress their new found friends. Sent from my XT1254 using Forums mobile app The 18-20 year olds are clearly a demographic all of the major lines could care less about. While the cat and the hat invades every aspect of the Carnival Experience and serenity areas have been improved along with the entertainment in the bars, nothing has been done for undergrad students. Not saying it excuses bad behavior, but providing more venues for this group might lead to fewer problems. Taking Dd18 and DS20 this summer. Would be nice to enjoy the lounges and serenity with them. But on the bright side we can all enjoy the aft pool together as little tykes snorkel around our legs. [emoji12] So I do see how the issue is related to the aft pools, this was the one area (besides the casino) that had a cutoff of 18 instead of 21. So 18 to 20 year olds (and their families) who were on the bottom of the totem pole with respect to shipboard amenities and programs to begin with, got shafted with this move. Sent from my iPhone using Forums I would be interested in hearing how different lines do things to identify with this age group. I guess we can micro any age group at the time of any announcement and cherry pick how it does apply (to the micro age group). That said, the age group you point out is one that is fairly unique (non drinking able, not adult in many ways but not kids....), hence my first comment. Sent from my iPad using Forums I could not seem to locate your first comment. However I can see that 18 to 20-year-olds falling in a gap with most cruise lines programs and amenities. Perhaps there should be a meet and mingle on the first day of the cruise specifically for 18 to 20-year-olds so that they could meet a member of the crew who would organize activities so they can hang out together and yet stay out of trouble. Sent from my iPhone using Forums 18-20 year olds can go into the lounges, they just can't drink. My DD was 19 on our last cruise and while they ID'd her to let her in, she spent a lot of time dancing in the lounges on our cruise.

So other than not being able to drink, the 18-20 group isn't really outcasted.
