Those denominations are typically not accepted in vending machines, which does not help their popularity.

We do Disney, Longhorns,Dennys, outlet malls shops hotels bars,Walmart etc never vending machines but still never had any in my change just 1 cent,5 cent 10 cent and 25 cents in change

You can't possibly see what everyone is doing.

Maybe most are going to tip the last night. Also, some are very good at passing a tip without it being noticed. Our experience in DL's and CL's since 2009 is that the majority do tip each night and almost everyone does the last night. Those that we can see sitting around us anyway.

Our last cruise a week ago on GR, I don't think I ever saw anyone not tip per drink (those sitting around us)

Most of our cruises are Europe, Dubai and never seen anyone tipping nightly.

The government was pushing one dollar coins for a while. Bills cost too much to print and wear out fast while the coins virtually last forever. Where I've always gotten them as change are the postage stamp vending machines at the post office...Say you use the machine to buy a 20-stamp book of first class postage--$9.80--and you put a $20 bill into the machine...It would spit out two dimes and ten one dollar coins as change.

Problem is, due to their size, they are easy to mistake for quarters...plus, I don't like carrying a lot of loose change in my pockets.

As to paid parking at hospitals, before retiring a few years ago, I was an attorney/executive with a major HMO/Hospital chain. We used to have paid parking in most of our hospitals in the Los Angeles area, for example, but removed it from most, not all, several years ago. At issue is that parking, in general, is quite expensive in most areas of Los Angeles and, if you don't put some charge or control on it, people will park in your lot to do other things in the area--leaving not enough spaces for your actual patients and visitors. But, among the problems we had were irritated patients and, also, a few cases of embezzlement by the parking attendants (you can just imagine the clever ways they could pocket a lot of the money paid in small bills). One way to combat that might have been to convert to an automated system, but that would likely have irritated people more. So, in many of the hospitals, we just removed the parking booths and gates altogether. OTOH, there was NO parking charge for EMERGENCY parking...of course, enforcement of that is always difficult--you have to hope people won't abuse that--knowing it would be at the expense of people who really need the quick access.

Tip, don't tip -- that's up to the individual. Don't pre-judge as other posters had indicated, you don't know is and when a tip was given or not.

We did not tip per drink but at the end of the cruise we handed the waitress a red envelop with cash for her good service throughout the cruise. Other waiters/waitress in the DL barely came by but the one we tip, greeted us, had our drinks within minutes of our arrival without asking. She deserved the extra cash whether or not RCCL was paying her. As for the other ones where we had to flag down, looked like we were interrupting their conversation -- well, why would I tip for bad service?

No, and I didn't suggest that there's no tipping going on. Currently, in the Navigator DL, there's a tip jar on the DL bar. For the first time I saw someone drop a tip in there yesterday. My observation was from spending about an hour+ each night in there people watching and listening to people's stories. The dynamics could be a bit different in the VCL overflow area which has some roving servants.

Biker, who would be surprised to see the above pattern change on the last night.

I agree 100% with you.We often people watch like you and i have never seen anyone near us give a tip when their drinks are brought to the table.

On the last night a lot of people do tip but i have seen a lot of people just walk out.

Ah......... another tipping thread. I never ever carry any cash on me throughout the cruise, except for the last night. So I am one who you will note not tipping. So be it.

That's fine the point is a lot of posters say most people tip nightly and Biker and myself do but we have not seen evidence others do.

Leaving a good tip on last night is probably again what most of us do but if i have seen people walk out and left nothing then I'm sure quite a lot of other people must do as well.

Since the demographics of each cruise are different, so will the tip jar be different. There are big tippers, there are small tippers and there are no tippers. That's just the way it is.

And some that say they do but don't and others who say they don't then do

I give them a big tip (usually $20) the first night before they even serve us a drink then about $10 each subsequent night. After that, they take good care of me the rest of the evening and the rest of the cruise. Most of the time, I don't even have say anything. They just look at me, nod to see if I am ready for another one and the drinks keep flowing. Btw, I heard they share the tips among the bar staff like the casino does so it should not matter if you get the same server on the final night or not.

If you really think about it, $5 is less than it would cost to purchase one beer on board the ship. It's a small price to pay so that your cup always runneth over. :D:D:D

Thats my thinking thats why if we use our 3 diamond drinks in other bars i leave tips to offset what gratuity they would have made on our drinks.

I give the bartender at pool bar a dollar when I trade my warm C&A Corona for a cold one. They always question where I got it.

That's funny, they never question us when we do the same thing. Maybe because I give them two dollars?;)

I think you would have better luck with that if you let them charge around $7 on your SeaPass card.

Your right although for our June cruise on Freedom we were given a free drinks package in the UK so i will have a few hundred dollars to hand out when we get our free drinks.

I'm not big on keeping a lot of $1's during a cruise, so I'm a twice weekly tipper in the DL/CL. I tip the equivalent of the 18% gratuity on drinks and sodas, so by mid-week I can leave one larger denomination bill. Then, at the end of the week I leave another tip. Repeat if the cruise is longer than a week.

Just for my knowledge only because I don't know. Does the bartender receive any tip when they bring a drink to up one of the 3 happy hour drink. I noticed that on the Harmoney on MDR they would bring the drink to us but they were not coming back even though we gave them $2.00 for the 2 wines we ordered so I thought may be they get no tip the automatic 18% on regular drink
