Wonderful Copenhagen 2017 edition.

Recommended Posts

Thanks for all the great information. We will be in Copenhagen on Brilliance of the Seas in July. After watching an episode of Delicious Destinations on Copenhagen, we are hoping to do a food tour to try what looks like amazing cuisine.

Any recommendations?

Lille Langebro as it is called is scheduled to open this fall and the fundation work is done now.

Now they wait for the bridge deck to be shipped from Holland.

All tourist sites and restaurants is open on June 5th its only shops that are closed.

My favourites are Glyptoteket, the zoo and of course Tivoli.

But what do you want to see, art museums or castles?

I was thinking to do Tivoli on the 5th, NY Glyptotek is closed that day. Also want to see castles, take a walking tour and food tour as well. I booked CPH Living for now. Your opinion about this hotel?

It get excellent reviews on TripAdvisor so I think you have made a good choice.

Only downside is that its located next to the construction of the pedestrian/bicycle bridge Lille Langebro.

The foundation work is done and that its probably the noisiest part of the construction.

The bridge deck or what they are called in english is lifted in place during the spring and early summer but that should a job without any big noise.

I anything it will be a spectacular sigth to see :D

Thank you so much for your reply! I was wandering about transportation, saw the bus stop nearby, but could not figure out its rout and number(it was in Danish).Looking forward to some pleasant walking to Nyhavn, Christiania, Amalienborg and Tivoli!

Danish Viking, would like your opinion with taking a bus from the airport to our hotel as the bus stop is across the street.

Are bus stops at airport easy to find/where are they located? Bus 5C towards Herlev Hospital or Husum Torv; stop is Politiorvrt across from Cabinn City Hotel-Mitchellsgade 14. Thanks in advance, Eileen

When you exit the bagage claim area you will be at the main floor of Terminal 3.

Continue straight ahead to the stairs to the metro station but exit on your right hand.

The bus stop should be on the side of the road a few meters further ahead.

Other options are to take the metro to Amagerbro and change to 5C there or the regular train to the central station and take 5C from there.

Notice that it will be towards Sundby plads or the airport from there.

The easy thing with 5C it that it works like a train/tram on the road, you can use all doors to enter and exit and just have your ticket/rejsekort ready for inspection.

Its a Bendy bus as they are called in England, I don't know the US term but its a bus with a wagon/carriage attached to the rear end.

Thank you Danish Viking. We will be staying in Copenhagen for 4 nights before boarding a scandinavia cruise this May. I think it make sense to get a Copenhagen card, but the 72 hours card will only cover 3 days. We will be arriving by air on May 16 afternoon, so probably will not have enough energy to visit attraction on that day. The card can cover the transport from airport to the hotel, but we can only use the card the until May 19 afternoon and the card cannot cover the transport from hotel to the port on May 20. Do you have any recommendations on how we buy the card? Also, I am looking for budget accomdation in Copenhagen. We need a room that can accommodate 3 guests. I have looked at various hotel booking sites and the price seems very expensive in the city center. Do you have any suggestions on the area we can stay?

Well the train/bus ticket is more expensive from the airport to downtown compared to downtown to cruise terminal so perhaps its better to use the Copenhagen card on the first day.

You can order it online so its ready for use when you arrive at the airport or else you can buy it at the info desk at Terminal 3.

The icehockey world championship is on from the 4th to the 20th of May so thats likely the reason for the expensive hotel prices.

What price range are you looking for, the searching for a room with 3 beds from the 17th to the 20th I get prices from 317 USD but many in the 700-1200 USD range.

Hotel Loeven on Vesterbrogade and Living Suites out in the suburbs (in Nærum) is the only one I could find in that price range.

Danhostel Copenhagen Amager is also an option.

I sadly think that you should shoot for 200 USD.

Have you concidered Airbnb, I'm not a fan but sometimes desperate times calls for desperate measures.

Danish Viking,

I have been reading this board in order to prepare for our Baltic cruise. One member said that the Red HoHo bus is unavailable because of subway construction in the city limits its movement. We enjoy these types of buses to give us an overview of the city. If this is true what type of transportation do you recommend for a one day visit?

I was also surprised to hear that.

I do not think its possible to use 1 hour on that trip, it takes 45 minutes to walk :)

Right when the terminal opened in 2014 (or was it 2015) there was some problem in the Monday to Friday morning rush but the last few years I have only heard about problems with to few taxies, but transport time has not been the issue.

Digging out for the metro stopped about 1 year ago so that is not and issue at all and all lanes around the worksite at Kongens Nytorv is almost back to their normal layout so here traffic flows as good as possible.

Also from december after the Nordhavnsvej tunnel opened it has spread out the traffic out of the port even better.

Instead of everyone going left to reach the motorway now trucks etc can turn right to enter the tunnel out to the motorway.

I have tried to take the bus number 25 out to Oceankaj with 2 ships in port in the afternoon and there was no issues at all, this was in 2016.

As my photos from that trip is gone I will at the start of the season try to take some new photos and I will try to be there in the morning rush.

You can´t reserve a taxi but from what the other cruisers has posted here this season it seems like there is no or very little waiting time for a taxi.

The most extreme I have heard was 30 minute but that was on the busiest day of the entire season.

Hello,

We will be arriving at the Oceankaj Terminal 3 on May 10, 2018. Does anyone have an update on the taxi situation for the shoulder season? Do taxis go all the way down to terminal 3? We will have a lot of luggage, and one of us has difficulty walking (diasability).

Thanks for your help in this forum! :) :) :)

Yes, but ask before you ride.

Do taxis take DEBIT cards? We are thinking of getting one of those prepaid debit cards, loading it up, and then using it for transportation expenses instead of using our normal debit cards. The card will have a mastercard, or a visa logo.

Thanks in advance!!!

A new taxi regulation is now in place and that one focuses on having more taxis in the morning rush and its easier to get a taxi permit.

This should mean that the taxi situation is way better than last year (the first year without Uber)

But I'm almost sure that your ships is the only one at Oceankaj that morning so I don't think it will be a problem.

If its a Mastercard or Visa it should be okay but that prepaid thing makes me think twice, because we don't have prepaid cards in Denmark so I really don't know if it works.

Can you tell me the brand/bank name and then I will look it up.

Or maybe ask your bank if it works like a regular debitor card because then you should be fine.

My prepaid card worked in Copenhagen. It was from the Post Office (UK)

So this is the new version of my popular thread.

I will put the most asked subjects here on the first page.

Pier information

For pier location use this page, its updated closer to arrival with exact pier number and terminal.

http://www.cmport.com/ships-in-port/cruise-ships/season-current

C177 is Nordre Toldbod

C331 to 333 is Oceankaj

Only one ship will dock at C266 Levantkaj and that is MSC Magnifica on the 3rd of June so I wont go into details about that pier.

Transport to the piers.

At Nordre Toldbod the nearest bus stop is on route 1A with Esplanaden (Grønningen) when coming from central Copenhagen and Esplanaden (Store Kongensgade) when going to central Copenhagen.

http://dinoffentligetransport.dk/trafikinformation/koereplaner/koereplaner-bus/1a/

For Langelinie its the 26 bus.

At Østerport station it both stop at Østerport st. (Folke Bernadottes Allé) and Østerport st.

http://dinoffentligetransport.dk/trafikinformation/koereplaner/koereplaner-bus/26/

For Oceankaj its both bus 25 and 27

Bus 25 starts at Nørreport station, stops at Østerport st. (Folke Bernadottes Allé) and then continues to Oceankaj.

http://dinoffentligetransport.dk/trafikinformation/koereplaner/koereplaner-bus/25/

Bus 27 departs from Østerport station and stops at all the bus stops towards Oceankaj so its 4 minutes longer compared to 25.

http://dinoffentligetransport.dk/trafikinformation/koereplaner/koereplaner-bus/27/

http://journeyplanner.dk/ has been updated with bus 25´s timetable.

Prices are..

2 zone (piers to central Copenhagen) 24 kroner

3 zone (airport to central Copenhagen or pier) 36 kroner

At Oceankaj you buy the ticket at the town shop, the little hut between Terminal 1 and 2 on the other side of the road.

Else you can buy the citypass that is valid in zone 1 to 4 (including the airport)

24 hour ticket costs 80 kroner and 72 hour is 200 kroner.

http://www.citypass.dk/

Another option is the 24 hour transportation ticket that costs 130 Kroner and is valid in zone 1 to 99 so it covers Roskilde and the castles in Northern Zealand.

My guide to use the bus is in this thread.

Taxi/Private Car

Dantaxi

Taxi Nord

4x27

http://amagerobrotaxi.dk/

Taxi Nord has a practical price calculater

http://www.taxinord.dk/nyttig-info/beregn-pris-paa-taxi.html

Takst 1 and 3 is normal hours.

Takst 2 and 4 is night after Friday and Saturday from 23:00 to 07:00 and public holidays.

To quickly sum of the taxi situation at Oceankaj.

In general they don´t accept prebooking at Oceankaj because in their experience people just takes the first available taxi instead of the one they booked.

but they say that there should be plenty of taxis all the time.

Private car or Minibus

Come with the questions

Thanks for the links a great help, we are coming on Celebrity Silhouette at the end of May berthing at Langelinie, we will do a night visit to Tivoli either walking or by taxi, following day a City Tour & Dragor

but only for 4 hrs with 20 minutes in Dragor, is it worth it for such a small time, would a walking tour of the

sites in Copenhagen be better
