Quick question, as I am new to MSC and the YC, are the butlers tipped separately from the auto tipping/service charges?  Or are we discussing additional tips to the recommended, auto-tips?

Thanks

Most of the responders paid the Daily Service Charge and have tipped beyond the DSC.

I left the service charge in place and also tipped both the butler, our restaurant waiter and the maitre’d.  When I gave the butler $100 he look at me didn’t even say thank you.

Lesson learnt in my eyes, never again.

What are the daily service charge for YC ? We always leave that alone and tip extra depending on service of course. If you go to bar do you tip extra on others lines we tended to tip a dollar or two with drink orders, thanks,

Any MSC cruise booked in UK from the summer 2019 has the DSC included in the cruise fare no matter where it sails. Terms & Condition are changing all the time, from tomorrow Celebrity are charging $14/pp/pd for their FREE drinks package.  What next I wonder..........

Mickey the person asking about how much DSC is from Dallas Texas so what is incl in UK booking is irrelevant. As is Celebrity charges on Bev Package

Don’t you know that others read this as well.............!

There is no doubt that the MSC gratuities are very reasonable. I am sure that Celebrity are $18 pppd in a suite although we usually don't pay that with their 4 perks in a suite.

Rccl also charges a few dollars more for all suites and you normally do not get a butler 😂😂

Must say I find this info quite useful, as I am booked on X for next April, but for a variety of reasons may have to cancel or rearrange the booking. It's a non-refundable deposit but was hoping to get it transferred to anther sailing. But if I manage this I may lose the perk or have to pay the extra. Handy to know.

Emma's Gran - no offense intended and this post not aimed at your comment at all just incase there is a misunderstanding.

On the subject of YC tipping - over and above the DSC we tip the assistant butler (frankly the one doing all the donkey/dirty work in cleaning the cabin twice a day!) regardless, and the butler with an amount commensurate to what we have asked of them. On this Preziosa cruise I just left today, our butler was extremely insistent on escorting us everywhere and despite my repeated attempts to tell him this wasn't necessary (in the nicest way possible) it didn't sink in. We don't really use the services of a butler in any event, and in this case even less so as we just didn't 'click' - so the tip amount was decided accordingly.

We chanced the outdoor route a couple of times when the winds were down but otherwise we did tend to go via deck 7 and battled through the associated crowds. Can't imagine it's any fun at all for the butlers to walk that route multiple times per night and I previously thought they would jump at the prospect of getting off with the duty. Didn't try via a cabin deck, given the number of dead end corridors and lifts that only go so high if you pick the outside two of a bank of 4 (for example).

We did the walk via the buffet on deck 14 down one deck straight through the buffet and up one deck if raining otherwise walked the deck route on Preziosa Caribbean

We just returned from a fabulous 7 night eastern med cruise on Divina, it was so good we’re booked in 142 days on a 11 night Carib cruise....

we received excellent service from our butler and he was almost offended when in the second night we did not ask him to accompany us to Le Muse...

back to topic: we did tip both the butler and the steward who both made an excellent job... also gave them each a tiny gift.....

It's $12.50 pppn on US-based cruises for everyone, regardless of cabin type or Experience.

@George C  I've just come across the following on the US website, when I clicked on the "What's Included" link.  It's for a Dec Caribbean sailing and indicates that it's now $14 pppn:

We do the same and tip extra on top of the DSC at the end of the cruise depending on the level of service we received by the butler, etc.

We tip a dollar or two with bar orders and also tip (discreetly) at meals (in the YC and elsewhere, except buffets) as we don't always get served by the same people and want to make sure each person serving us receives something over the cruise so we don't miss anyone.  It definitely has made a difference in our experience and this way the servers are tipped commensurate with what they've actually done for us and we don't have to try to keep track of who did what and when.  We picked up this way of tipping a little extra to servers after talking to a couple in the Haven on NCL a number of years ago and adopted it immediately with no regrets.

Having tried different ways of tipping over the years (before, during, after and various combinations), we've found this way of doing things gives us the most confidence that we've taken care of the people who have taken care of us.

Just noticed top line of page.

TIPS  MSC does not  recommend tipping individual members of staff.

interesting......

I've seen that and have discussed w/several of the management staff multiple times & while that is what many cruise lines have on their sites, I've also been told that the Butlers on MSC YC specifically are not included in the DSC (among others) and therefore are not prohibited from accepting gratuities if they provide exceptional service ...
