Gratuity Charge for Drink Package

I just read a review that stated NCL charges you a gratuity charge for each drink even with the drink package but I was under the impression this was included in the cost. Am I confused or is that review wrong??

You have to pay the gratuities in advance. Some US ports do charge prior to departure a sales tax too.

You will pay 18% gratuity on any portion of the drink over $15.

They do charge local taxes in some ports (Miami for example) until a certain distance from land. You pay the gratuity charge on the drink package but not any more... except as I noted.

Since we don't know what the review said, it is hard to respond about the review.

 

With the drink package you pay an 18% service charge on the cost of the package or if it is a free package you pay 18% on the value of the package. If the cost of you drink is more than $15 you pay the drink cost - $15, + 18% of the amount that is over $15.

 

If you buy drinks a la carte without a package you pay the drink price plus 18%.

 

The soda package works the same way, but of course no sodas are over $15.

If you're form the uk you don't pay any gratuity on it in advance. Then they've introduced all inclusive so one payment and it's all covered.

If you are in a suite(not a mini-suite) or Haven, the 18% is also covered.

This is not 100% correct. You need to have bought the cruise from a UK/EU travel agent or a site. Being a citizen of the UK does not mean you get away without paying the 18%.
