travelplus Posted May 13, 2017 #1 Share Posted May 13, 2017 (edited) What are your thoughts for Emerald and up Crown and Anchor Members that they send you RFID Tags and you go and register them online so if there is a change of address it can be updated. The RFID Tag is linked to your Sea Pass and you can track the status of your bag. For those below Emerald you could pay the shipping and handling fee for the tag. The RFID would store your checkin information and preferences and is tied to your Crown and Anchor number. You can get up to 4 RFID tags mailed for free but if you need more you can get them at the pier or at home. Its a sticker that you stick to your checked bag. The porter scans it. Royal could then send you a card(like a SeaPass) that you get to keep and this has your unique bag ID linked to your C@A Account. There is no real need to list your status on the Card as this is stored in the RFID Chip. Perhaps a card holder with your status written on the plastic protective cover would denote your status. The RFID would help with online checkin as you could scan the front page of your passport, upload your photo and have your Credit Card uploaded too. The online process would be automatic and there is no need for printing out a Sea Pass. If everything is OK you don't need to update anything but if your passport is renewed you then just update it online like you do on your airline Frequent Flier program. At the pier you go to a kiosk where it verifies everything. It will ask you to scan your card and you can even take a photo on the kiosk(like the Global Entry Kiosks at airports). Once you verify everything it loads your room information and the RFID chip is linked to the RFID reader on the door or on a unique mobile RFID tag that you can scan to gain access to your room. When you board the ship they just scan your RFID Card and you are on. Also via the Royal Caribbean Mobile App you could track your bags like you can with the Delta Airlines Mobile App so if a bag is missing you just let the Guest Services know and they give the Bag ID RFID Id Number to the Stevedores. At the kiosk or online under your C& A preferences you could choose the personalized offers that are of interest to you Kids don't drink alcohol so they would get something that interests them for the Onboard Savings and there would be 2 Surprise Offers Loaded too. So Emerald Members would get more choices than Platinum to chose from. Once this is done it uploads it to your SeaPass Account and you redeem it as usual, I would like to hear your thoughts on this. knittinggirl Posted May 13, 2017 #6 Share Posted May 13, 2017 Love it! But with Royal Caribbean making cut backs, adding charges to previously free services, do you really think they'll add another perk?

endorphin8 Posted November 2, 2017 #9 Share Posted November 2, 2017 If anything Royal would charge for this perk... Yes they would charge for the service even though it would improve the customer experience and could improve their efficiency of baggage handling. But they would not just charge but it would be double the cost of what a fair amount many passengers would be willing to pay. Great idea though and hopefully one other cruiselines will pick up. Biker19 Posted November 2, 2017 #10 Share Posted November 2, 2017 Yes they would charge for the service even though it would improve the customer experience and could improve their efficiency of baggage handling. Carnival is not doing it under their new Ocean Medallion program and I doubt there are efficiencies to be gained after the cruislines have been doing this for 20 years on sizable ships. cb at sea Posted November 2, 2017 #16 Share Posted November 2, 2017 You should NEVER have your "home" address on luggage tags, in any shape or form. Put a business address, and your cell phone #..but NEVER an address! If your luggage is usurped by a thief, they know you're not home.....so a home address is a BAD idea. Lockport Bob Posted November 2, 2017 #19 Share Posted November 2, 2017 Not to mention anyone with an RFID reader can get the information off the tag. Not quite sure how they would benefit from it but I’m sure someone will come up with a way to monotize the information. Let Equifax run the RFID program.
