Has Anyone Ever Lost/Misplaced/Left Something Of Value Onboard And Had It Returned?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

My DH, DD, DD'sB (Darling Daughter's Boyfriend) and I just returned today from The Escape (Andre's last cruise on the Escape---what a gem he is!!!). I'd be happy to answer any questions anyone has.

My question really concerns lost items.

On the third or fourth day of the cruise, I was checking our safe for a $50 bill that I thought I left in there. I cleared everything out and swept my hand over the bottom to make sure it didn't slide into one of the corners. Well, I didn't find the $50 bill (I'm pretty sure it was in my purse after all) but I did discover a piece of jewelry. It slid to the front left hand corner of the safe. We immediately contacted Kevin Bland, the assistant hotel director and handed it off to him. He informed us that Norwegian has a department that handles the entire fleet's lost item issues.

We have no idea if the item was of any value but we REALLY hope that it makes it's way back to it's rightful owner(s).

Has anyone lost/misplaced/left any item of value on a Norwegian ship and ultimately had it returned to you?

BTW, this was our 8th cruise (first on NCL) and we LOVED it!!!! The Escape is a big and beautiful ship. The staff is amazing.

It's been a LONG day but well worth it.

My niece lost her cell phone on the Jewel in 2015 it was found later in the casino and our concierge, the wonderful Hanno, arranged to have guests from our hometown meet us to deliver it. Niece was thrilled.

Did your niece notify NCL while on the cruise that she lost it or did she have to file a claim after the cruise?

My Mother (older than me of course) left her cell phone under the bed (she "hid" it there) and did not realize she left it until we were on the way home. Contacted NCL and never heard anything back. Older phone so big deal in this case.

She still hides things - drives us nuts.

I was just on the April 15th sailing of Escape. I found a wallet with credit cards and $480 cash. Ironically, I also lost a reusable metal water bottle the day before. I went to guest services with it and told them what I found and what I lost. They have 2 books. One is non valuable items and one was valuable items. I told the agent that I was very offended that my bottle was logged in the non valuable items, lol. They had my bottle. They logged all contents of the wallet into the valuable items book while I watched. I hope the gentleman calls because he will get his stuff back. For those who don't get it back, either it hasn't been found yet or someone kept it.

Hmm, I would hope that NCL gets the gentleman his wallet, credit cards and cash back especially since that's an easy one to identify. In our case, there's no telling how long the item that I found was in that safe. We were told that everything unclaimed after each cruise is sent to Miami and that there is a department dedicated to handling all of those items. I have no idea what happens to them after they go unclaimed for a certain amount of time.

My wife lost her cell phone in the casino( along with some money, LOL) and went to lost and found and it was there. She also left her glasses on the table we were having breakfast the last day of cruise. We called when we got home and never heard back.

She told while we were still on. We basically stripped the cabin… Looked all over the ship… When we disembarked we figured it was gone forever.. Hanno, the concierge emailed me a few days later and said her phone had been found in the casino.

My mother had an elderly aunt and uncle and he was a big drinker and he would hide cash all over their property. After they had both died all of the relatives went in and started pulling up bricks and looking for hiding places and they found quite a lot of money. But when they sold the property they wondered how much was still there. LOL.

I left my Kindle in my cabin and filed a report. They said they "found an electronic device", but two months later and I still have no Kindle or communications from NCL. When I call, they say "it is in transit". So, don't hold your breath.

We have ALWAYS had items returned! On our very first sailing (granted, this was on RCCL), my young daughter left her purse in the ladies room which had her Gameboy (a new novelty at the time) along with $100 that her grandmother had given her for the cruise. It was turned in and when we asked about it, they handed it right over. But, we have had similar experiences on NCL, too. I like to think that those cruising "treat others as you would like to be treated". It was certainly a good experience for our children!

Dang, I just really hope that they try to get this item back to it's rightful owner but after all of this feedback I'm not very hopeful. Truthfully, it wouldn't be that hard to figure out if the owner filed a claim. They know what cabin/safe it came out of.

That's wonderful that your daughter was able to get her items back. The big difference here is that this item belongs to a past cruiser. So, they would have had to have filed a claim after the cruise. Just not too hopeful at this point that the item will make it back to it's owner but we did our part.

I have a GREAT story. We were on a girls trip, myself, my sister, my daughter and niece on the Gem out of NYC. We stayed in the Deluxe Owners Suite which was magnificent. Anyway, so hubby comes to pick us up at the port and we are on our way back to Jersey. We get almost to the GWB and I realize I didn't have my wedding or engagement ring on. TOTAL PANIC MODE. My hubby turns around and we drive right back to the pier. My sister and I run inside and speak to a port employee who gets us in touch with the Housekeeping Supervisor, who gets in touch with our Butler. After waiting for what seemed like hours, but it wasn't, and after shedding MANY tears, I heard on the walkie talkie that they found my rings in the suite and someone was on their way with them!! I felt like an angel was watching out for me that day, as well as Dilip, our Butler!!! :) So, yes, things do get returned, at least in my case they did!!

you did your part, it would be up to the person who lost the jewelry to report it. I know with the airlines, item left on the plane are held for 2 weeks (I think that is how long) That gives the person who lost the item time to report the loss.

As for the cruise line we did leave a brand new camera in the cabin one time: Not expensive but new. I did not bother to report it:my fault. Daughter left a bag on the NCL bus once time, got it back that evening and I got my glasses back just a few months ago. I think it is a hit or miss. the cruise line will do what they can, but without someone asking about a missing item there isn't much they can do. Of course not all people are honest.

We had a camera returned once. Left the whole bag on the bed when we debarked. The camera was missing the memory card upon return so we had none of our vacation pictures but at least we got the camera back.

Leave something of value on board? Never. Do you hear me? N.E.V.E.R.

When we walk off the ship, I make sure to have my DW go ahead of me to keep an eye on her. I wouldn't find my way home without her!

We had a guy post on our roll call that he'd just got off and had left his SD card with the cruise photos in a cabin and gave the number. We boarded, went to guest relations and they had it but wouldn't give it to us to post to him. Which I completely understand as it wasn't ours. They said they were sending it to Miami but he never got it back

This Friday marks the two month anniversary of our disembarkation on the cruise where I left my Kindle. Nothing to report. I think I will finally buy myself a new one.

I got a great deal on one last year on Prime Day - it is usually in July if you can wait.

Good news! It arrived by Federal Express yesterday. Everything was in tact. The company they supposedly hired send me an email that it was never found. I kept calling the Miami office every three weeks to ask and they kept saying "some electronic device you left in the cabin is in transit to Miami."

Great news! Thanks for reporting in.

LOL. I used to be married to a Mark. That did not work out too well.

I left a designer makeup bag in the drawer....realized it the next day after leaving the ship. Contacted NCL and filled out a lost item claim......waited a couple of weeks and was giving up hope but it DID appear! But I did have to wait a while longer as it had to be sent to Miami and cleared there and then returned to me....we forgot another item a few years back and had similar good luck......but can't remember exactly what it was!

Our experience was great! But we were in the Haven.....the butler knew us and we had tipped well.......not sure if this had anything to do with our positive outcome!
