stjlo Posted June 10, 2017 #1 Share Posted June 10, 2017 We are very excited for our first Alaska cruise at the end of July! My question is regarding stargazing. Will it be dark enough (I mean with regard to the ship's lights) to see the stars well? Or do the ship's lights kind of drown out the stars? Thank you. anniesusie Posted June 10, 2017 #2 Share Posted June 10, 2017 It doesn't get dark enough regardless of the ship's lights to see stars. Land of the midnight sun! Sent from my Nexus 5X using Forums mobile app
Rare ski ww Posted June 10, 2017 #3 Share Posted June 10, 2017 Sun rise at that time of year is around 0400 & sun set around 21:00 - 21:40, give or take a bit. Some where in between it might get dark enough if you're willing to get up that early. There are places on the ship that you can see the stars if they're out. shelltherunner Posted June 10, 2017 #4 Share Posted June 10, 2017 And ships lights in general drown out the starlight. You typically do not see more that you would on the suburbs. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Red Rock Feaver Posted June 12, 2017 #5 Share Posted June 12, 2017 Can you see the stars from land if your in Aleaska?
vanesssss Posted June 12, 2017 #6 Share Posted June 12, 2017 I barely gets dark enough. It didn't even look like night until after 12:30 am and by 3 am the sun was coming up. Even when it was dark, it was more like twilight than night time.
