thepauls93 Posted July 20, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 20, 2017 Quick question for anyone who knows the answer. Going on the Journey cruise with Carnival on the Miracle this Sept. I need to know what shore excursions through Carnival in Alaska & Vancouver do I need a passport for? Thanks, Anna
Kamloops50 Posted July 20, 2017 #2 Share Posted July 20, 2017 Yes it is recommend to have a passport . Enhanced Drivers License , Birth Certificate and government id aren't accepted for entry into Canada by ship or plane.
thinfool Posted July 20, 2017 #3 Share Posted July 20, 2017 The port that has excursions that enter/return Canada is Skagway. Juneau, Ketchikan, Icy Straight are all within Alaska and need no further ID than ship card and Photo ID.

EDL is absolutely accepted for land or sea travel into or out of Canada. EDL is insufficient for air travel, but that's usually well known by any EDL holder. alwaysfrantic Posted July 20, 2017 #5 Share Posted July 20, 2017 The cruise line will tell you if you need to take your passport for any of the excursions. Some Skagway trips cross the border. Many do not.

He's probably asking about Vancouver because they are stopping there before they continue on to Hawaii.
Rare martincath Posted July 20, 2017 #7 Share Posted July 20, 2017 OP seems to be on just a 14 day Closed Loop out of Long Beach, so the usual Skagway 'longer train rides or bus trips that go over the land border into Canada' WHTI documentation issue applies (EDL, passport, NEXUS all work). The Vancouver stop should be the same as the usual Victoria PVSA 'foreign port' compliance stop - no passport required. This is because, contrary to general belief, you still do not need a passport to enter Canada as a US citizen. The issue is that the US will not let you back in without appropriate WHTI documentation. Since us Canucks are very nice people CBSA always ask to see your passport or equivalent at borders, not because you cannot get in without it, but to make sure you don't get stuck here unable to get back to the US! With a Closed Loop cruise you're exempt from the usual WHTI requirements. Further good news - you won't go through US immigration preclearance to reboard the ship if you get off in Vancouver, it will be a regular port stop with just security.
