janmcn Posted August 1, 2017 #1 Share Posted August 1, 2017 My husband and I both take eye drops for Glaucoma. The 1-month bottle does not need refrigeration but the "extra" (3) months do need to be kept under refrigeration. Without the expense (and space!) renting a refrigerator for the cruise, is there any other way? (Using ice won't work...keeps them too cold.) Rare wishIweretravelling Posted August 1, 2017 #2 Share Posted August 1, 2017 Look for a cruise line that provides a refrigerator in the cabin as a matter of course--many do. Or ask if they will keep them refrigerated in the galley or in the ship's medical center.
Tiggertastic Posted August 1, 2017 #3 Share Posted August 1, 2017 Complete a special needs and tell them you have medication that must be kept refrigerated, they are used to dealing with these things. Sent from my iPad using Forums

The Viking ships all have refrigerators in their cabins except the V cabins . You may have to move the candy bars and soda out of the way but it should serve the need. If you are in a V cabin then I would talk with one of the world cruise ambassadors . Sent from my iPad using Forums
Dcoy Posted August 1, 2017 #5 Share Posted August 1, 2017 I had the same concern about my eye drops during my world cruise on Cunard. The fridge in my cabin did the job. Don
deec Posted August 2, 2017 #6 Share Posted August 2, 2017 Eaches...Viking V category cabins DO have refrigerators....just do NOT get restocked for free!
The Other Tom Posted August 2, 2017 #7 Share Posted August 2, 2017 Most cabins, if not all, have refrigerators. If not, contact the medical center. I'm sure others have had this issue and they know how to handle it.
CruisingAlong4Now Posted August 4, 2017 #8 Share Posted August 4, 2017 Watch the temperature in the room "fridge". Some are merely "coolers" and can't keep meds at the required temps. Complete Special Needs forms and talk to doctor on board about keeping meds.
janmcn Posted August 6, 2017 Author #9 Share Posted August 6, 2017 Thank you all for suggestions...at this point I'll look into "special requests" for getting them taken care of. In "steerage" for the WC,we don't have even the "coolers" like on most HAL ships. Good suggestions from all of you.
bay guy Posted September 1, 2017 #10 Share Posted September 1, 2017 I'm an eye doctor. I assume you're talking about latanoprost or Xalatan drops. Despite what you've been told, the unopened drop bottles don't have to stay refrigerated as long as you keep them at a reasonable room temperature. The FDA issued a letter several years ago about this but for some reason, few pharmacies let the patients know about this.

melgirl Posted September 3, 2017 #13 Share Posted September 3, 2017 I use both the medications mentioned, so have faced this issue. I found that our (Australian) glaucoma association sell pouches to store these drops. Simple to use, you soak an inner pouch in water, the gel inside expands, place the bottle inside this pouch and then into outer pouch. This is effective for 72 hours. Then it is just a matter of resoaking the inner pouch. Very handy for travelling when temperatures cannot be consistent too.
