John Waggoner said the company wants to have options that cover the gamut of possible cruisers: American Queen for steamboat enthusiasts and people who want a historic feel; American Empress for more active passengers in the Pacific Northwest; American Duchess for very affluent passengers and groups and the fourth boat that is more wallet-friendly.
