mediccruzin Posted August 23, 2017 #27 Share Posted August 23, 2017 Does Galveston have any sort of drainage system for when it floods? Sent from my SM-G935V using Forums mobile app It's an island, so not much of one. Houston was built on a swamp that was drained and everything south of Houston was once upon a time either swamp or marshland. Also depends on the tide also. Seems a lot of times storms hit during high tide and there is no where for the water to run off to.

We decided to make it down to Galveston Thursday for Saturday's departure. We are worried about getting trapped if Carnival waits to tell us anything about the cruise. It's mostly the roads and low lying subdivisions that tend to flood. At least you are going on a cruise, I am working that day and I work in EMS in the Houston area. Sent from my SM-G935V using Forums mobile app Harborside where most the parking is floods quick, parking lots are slightly elevated so unless it takes a direct hit, it's passable. If you're parking there us Broadway to 25th to access the pier instead of 71st (Harborside) if its raining hard. Most the low area is around the train tracks Sent from my SM-G920T using Tapatalk

jimsnapple Posted August 23, 2017 #32 Share Posted August 23, 2017 weather.comWhat was once Tropical Storm Harvey is now expected to have a second wind later this week in the Bay of Campeche and southwest Gulf of Mexico, bringing a threat of heavy rain and gusty winds to eastern Mexico and parts of south Texas. Hostile winds aloft shredded Harvey's circulation Saturday over the Caribbean Sea, and the National Hurricane Center issued its final advisory. (MORE: Hurricane Central) What is left of Harvey is a cluster of disorganized showers and thunderstorms from the Yucatan Peninsula to Belize and Guatemala. A hurricane hunter aircraft investigated the remnants of Harvey Sunday afternoon and found that the system hadn't regenerated into a tropical depression or tropical storm because it lacked a well-defined center of circulation, and there was also no indication of tropical-storm-force winds. This was still the case on Monday, according to satellite imagery and surface observations. lgdick54 Posted August 23, 2017 #33 Share Posted August 23, 2017 Looks like its a block off Harborside, if you come in from Broadway which is where I45 ends, just take it slow and keep moving if you come across standing water (and try to follow a smaller car) Sent from my SM-G920T using Tapatalk

VolzCruiser Posted August 23, 2017 #39 Share Posted August 23, 2017 I would imagine it would take a lot for Carnival to cancel the cruise but I would advise that if you even think you might get Seasick to get your meds now.
Rare crewsweeper Posted August 23, 2017 #40 Share Posted August 23, 2017 Well, here's the latest. https://www.wunderground.com/cat6/hurricane-watch-texas-tropical-depression-harvey-regenerates If the steering front break down and the storm stalls, going to be a wet event. Just be prepared for wet weather and give yourself enough time to navigate to port.

I guess it's just hard for me to fathom how Carnival will approach the issue. I've read they will do just about anything to get you on that ship to get your money, but at what point do they say no? spleenstomper Posted August 23, 2017 #42 Share Posted August 23, 2017 Park your car inland and take a shuttle. I would not park in Galveston. One *model* model (not set in stone) is showing galveston with 3 feet of water.
Grannygirl21 Posted August 23, 2017 #43 Share Posted August 23, 2017 Well, I am following the wether, an this thread. I am scheduled to sail on Sunday on the CARNIVAL BREEZE. I will be (should be) in Galveston already as I plan to arrive on Friday. Flooding and high water in Galveston especially around the cruise terminal could prove quite irksome....:( We are schedule to sail Sunday on the Breeze too. We were not leaving until Saturday morning. I am not sure what we are going to do now. I am afraid if we leave Friday, we will be in the middle of this mess. Following this board and watching the weather. Glad I took out the travel insurance.
