Riverdome Posted August 27, 2017 #26 Share Posted August 27, 2017 On Oasis we were surprised to find that 2 connecting staterooms were cheaper than the family room that slept 5. The second balcony and bathroom will be a HUGE bonus that we didn't expect. Too bad there are so few connecting staterooms - but if you book early enough it may be the way to go. I called RCL and they helped me through all the pricing options.
AustinCruise Posted August 27, 2017 #27 Share Posted August 27, 2017 when our kids were 9 & 11, we started putting them in an inside across the hall from our balcony. Extra bathroom and more privacy.
Merion_Mom Posted August 27, 2017 #28 Share Posted August 27, 2017 On Voyager and Freedom class ships, there are a few balcony cabins that connect to an inside cabin...they are the last side cabins in the aft section of the ship. That could be cost effective....kids get the inside, and parents get the balcony. You probably have to book well in advance to grab that configuration. 1. There are two such pairs on each Voyager or Freedom class ships. They are on Deck 9. (9676/9681 & 9376/9381) (9696/9701 & 9396/9401) 2. They cannot be used for five. Each cabin is for double occupancy only.
SNJCruisers Posted August 27, 2017 #29 Share Posted August 27, 2017 There are family staterooms available on other Cruise lines besides RCI. Need to take the blinders off sometimes. Sent from my XT1254 using Forums mobile app
luv2cruise0618 Posted August 27, 2017 #30 Share Posted August 27, 2017 We are also a family of 5 with 3 young children - 9, 6 and 3. We have previously gotten a family stateroom available on Adventure and Freedom class ships. We just got off the Anthem of the Seas today in a 9 night and for the first time we did 2 cabins. I balcony and 1 inside. They were unfortunately not co-located. However the Royal Caribbean sales agent tipped us off that the balcony cabins while limited to three passengers are the same cabins that are used for a cabin for 4 or 5. Essentially the cabin had the queen size bed plus a pull out couch. It was more than enough space for our family of five with the three kids on the pullout bed or alternatively some nights two of the kids on the pull out and our little one - three-year-old - in the queen bed with us. We used both cabins as happy and son would use the other cabin to shower as well as it was great to have another cabin to just go stretch out and relax. This worked out beautifully and everyone had a great time ample space and lots of comfort.
CRUISEFAN0001 Posted August 27, 2017 #31 Share Posted August 27, 2017 We have a similar scenario for next year with a group of 5 family members sailing together, including one 4-year old, 2 young adults over 21, and the 2 of us. We considered a junior suite and family suite as well, but couldn't justify the additional cost. We ended up finding the best option to be 2 side-by-side balcony cabins on Oasis (by booking early we got a terrific rate).
Aggiebuttercup Posted August 27, 2017 #32 Share Posted August 27, 2017 HIGHLY recommend the Freedom class ships. We sailed with our 3 kids on Liberty last summer in 8500. This room had a master bedroom with a door, a small bedroom with bunk beds and a door, and a pull out couch. It was priced as an oceanview. It is under the bridge. We had so much room!! The room next to it, 8200, is also a great choice, but it has a curtain at the master bedroom instead of a door.
