duegwb Posted August 26, 2017 #1 Share Posted August 26, 2017 I booked a RCCL cruise with a TA, can I use a royal carribean gift card to pay down the balance of the cruise through the TA? If not can I call royal directly and use it there?
Clarea Posted August 26, 2017 #2 Share Posted August 26, 2017 I don't know if you can use the gift card, but all your payments must go through the TA.
always_cruisin Posted August 26, 2017 #3 Share Posted August 26, 2017 Yes, your TA can apply the gift cards to your booking. Sent from my iPad using Forums
duegwb Posted August 26, 2017 Author #4 Share Posted August 26, 2017 Royal says they can only be used if I booked through them directly.
always_cruisin Posted August 26, 2017 #5 Share Posted August 26, 2017 There's a way on the TA site to apply them. Your TA should know how to do it. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Dennis#1 Posted August 26, 2017 #6 Share Posted August 26, 2017 I have also recently gave my TA a RCCL Gift card to be used as partial payment for a cruise.
wants2cruise2 Posted August 26, 2017 #7 Share Posted August 26, 2017 Where are you getting RCCL gift cards? I got the Disney gift cards from ,SamsClub at a discount and used them through my TA to pay a Disney vacation. Saved some $. Is it an option like that? I got them through verizon rewards-I am going to call my TA today to confirm they will take them for final payment for a January cruise.
Mr. Click Posted August 26, 2017 #9 Share Posted August 26, 2017 One note on gift cards, if you are buying travel insurance make sure your insurance carrier will cover payments made with a gift card. I used a Celebrity gift card I got for credit card points to pay for part of a cruise we had to cancel at the last minute and the insurance carrier would not cover that portion of my payment. " Only payments made by cash, check or credit card are covered". That was $525 loss for me.
megr1125 Posted August 26, 2017 #10 Share Posted August 26, 2017 Those are not like normal RC gift certs. IIRC you need to book with a specific TA...read the T&Cs of them. You cannot use them on board...and Royal's gift certs cannot be used on board either. Sent from the cat's Galaxy S8

megr1125 Posted August 26, 2017 #12 Share Posted August 26, 2017 So...looks like you must have a new res, booked with Royal and NOT a TA, and likely a special desk at Royal... Those things are a pain in the arse. At least Carnival's are actually good!! Sent from the cat's Galaxy S8
Gregoryfo Posted August 26, 2017 #13 Share Posted August 26, 2017 We love RC, but they are without a doubt the most pain in the butt cruise line when it comes to gift cards. We do not even bother anymore.
keacat Posted August 26, 2017 #14 Share Posted August 26, 2017 We use the same type of gift certificate for all of our cruises. The cruise must be booked directly with RCCL then gift cards are sent to SharedServicesGiftCertificateRedemption@rccl.com so they can be applied to the reservation. harry0 Posted August 28, 2017 #15 Share Posted August 28, 2017 I read all the restrictions but thought I would call my TA and see if I could use these to pay off $3000 ($300 potential savings) worth of a balance on a previously booked cruise. They said yes no problem. I am still not 100% sure -so I emailed a link of the verizon card to the TA so they know exactly what it is and I have a paper trail. Side note: Verizon rewards will be canceling program Nov 1st
Mr. Click Posted August 28, 2017 #16 Share Posted August 28, 2017 Ok, I read the T&C and I don't see anything that says you cannot transfer your booking to a TA after booking with Royal. We have made bookings with Royal or Celebrity to get their perks and then transfered the booking to our TA to get their perks. Anyone tried that yet? I have done it many times-not sure how that is going to work with gift cards -The one negative is that you loose control of your booking-if there is a price drop you cannot hop on it-you must go through your TA-I still do it 90%of the time.
