boscobeans Posted September 16, 2017 #28 Share Posted September 16, 2017 I love longer cruises as well but if they extend the 10 day they need be able to extend each cruise for the entire season Sent from my iPad using Forums Extend one cruise and do what for the rest of its schedule? Reduce the next cruise by one or two days? Maybe change the dates on all the cruises for that ship by a few days? Imagine all the problems people would have as far as hotel and airline reservations and vacation schedules which for the most part are made well in advance and in some cases cannot be changed.. Better to cancel a cruise or change the itinerary since a date change for one may start a snowball rolling that would affect all the following cruises.. bosco

The cost would be astronomical. I am on one of the 14 day itineraries 2/2/18 and am seriously thinking about cancelling. My final payment date is in 3 weeks and I would really like to know where we are going. I see us not going to Tortola or St. Marteen, 2 of my favorites. I don't want to do the western and I can't see us getting to the ABC islands, it's just too far. I am looking at a 14 night Southern itinerary on another cruise line. Yes we have to fly but we won't lose any outdoor days either going down or coming back so there are advantages to that. Plus we can spend a few days in Miami before the cruise. My heart goes out to the people on the islands affected, the change in itineraries affects them more than us.

Lol You missed the words "but" and "if" in the first sentence of my post However...just to be accurate...ncl DID indeed change the BA 12 day cruises to 14 day cruises back in 2016 with rather little advance notice. Yes they had to change each cruise for the entire winter season. Yes some pax were disgruntled. Some thrilled. Yes it must have been a nightmare for ncl that season Why did ncl do this ? Because they were doing a winter season of 12 day cruises out of NYC to the eastern Carib They also did 1 and 2 night CTNs between each cruise. The federal powers that be then made ctns against the rules or something like that so ncl was forced to cancel them and just added the days on to the surrounding weeks itins and added several new Carib ports like Dominica and Martinique to the original cruises which turned the 12 day r/t into 14 day r/t I do believe they even had a 13 day r/t in there as well. Probably do to a calendar issue. Ncl offered all pax the opportunity to cancel with full refunds if needed They also offered something like the standard $300 airfare compensation Among other perks Sent from my iPad using Forums Edited September 16, 2017 by Crusin6

Your 14 day itin is one the the new itins that ncl was forced to come up with in 2016 Actually they came up with them in late 2015 for their December 2015 to March 2016 r/t Carib season from NYC on the ba Sorry about your dilemma on your upcoming cruise but I too would probably opt to fly to Miami Sent from my iPad using Forums

Lol You missed the words "but" and "if" in the first sentence of my post Sent from my iPad using Forums Sorry, I was going by this, "It wouldn't surprise me if they did just that. " As far as the 14 night cruises from NYC, I am booked on one in February, hence my concern as to what they plan on doing. I foresee a few changes and stops at either one or maybe two of the ABC's if possible would be GREAT but more likely would be stops at St. Croix, Martinique and Guadeloupe on the new itinerary. I also doubt that NCL or any other line will push cruises to beyond 14 days in length. Just a bit too long and although there are plenty who can take that length of time for a cruise I think the BA would be sailing with only a fraction of its berths occupied. Celebrity and Royal are already setting those ports into the itineraries they have to change. I just wonder when NCL will make any announcements?? bosco Edited September 16, 2017 by boscobeans
Crusin6 Posted September 17, 2017 #35 Share Posted September 17, 2017 Imho and based on the "get people all riled up article" I just read.....some of the alternate ports like st croix are in the path of Lee and Maria now. As are the islands already damaged On the brighter side Marathon in the Keys reopened but people are being told to come back with any and all supplies they will need with them Sent from my iPad using Forums
ally1118 Posted September 18, 2017 #36 Share Posted September 18, 2017 western is feasible from NYC depending on the length of your cruise. NCL does 14 day Western Caribbean cruises out of NYC port It's a 10-day cruise so I don't think Western Caribbean is in the cards for us.
WOODHORSE74 Posted September 24, 2017 #37 Share Posted September 24, 2017 I'm on the 1/23/18 on the Gem. An e-mail from NCL said we should have the island changes in two weeks.
Letsgo 2 Posted September 26, 2017 #38 Share Posted September 26, 2017 Hang in there. San Juan is fine, St. Thomas is a slim maybe, but the other 2 won't be ready. Western caribbean isn't very easy for a 10 day sailing from NY. It takes 4 days to get to the western from NYC, 4 days back, or 3 days if it's triangular with San Juan for example. Your cruise could be a combo of some kind. I have a similar situation with Breakaway Dec. 3, a 12 day sailing. Western is a stretch. Hoping they will adapt ours to a part southern keeping 3 ports and putting in 2 new replacement ports (we'd lose one as a new day at sea.) I'm sorry San Juan is not fine.....not by a long shot and will not be for months Marion

Smong Posted October 4, 2017 #43 Share Posted October 4, 2017 I actually just got off the phone with the concierge department for another matter and asked if she knew where we were going. She was so sweet and went to her supervisor and said they needed to hear back from a different department. She took my cell number and said someone would be calling me today (hopefully with itinerary) we shall see!!🙏🏻
ear21592 Posted October 8, 2017 #44 Share Posted October 8, 2017 I sent a DM on Twitter this past Thursday asking for a timeframe about when we'd receive a new itinerary and received a very automated reply: "Hi! Thank you for reaching out. We understand your concern. At this time we are still finalizing itineraries impacted by Hurricane Irma/Maria. Feel free to check back with us at a later date." Cruising Nancy Posted October 11, 2017 #46 Share Posted October 11, 2017 The Dawn, out of Boston has a similar itinerary to ours. They have been just notified "another week to determine itinerary..." From what I have been reading, it looks like San Juan is currently being used as a transfer port only. I see ships or flights stopping, loading, unloading, etc. But I see little indication of it being ready for a destination port with all the amenities necessary for a safe and comfortable vacation. ear21592 Posted October 11, 2017 #47 Share Posted October 11, 2017 Received an email today: "Dear Valued Guests and Travel Partners, We appreciate your patience while we continue to work with our partners on the ground to determine the best way to continue to provide relief to the areas impacted by and recovering from Hurricane Irma and to determine the extent of damage that Hurricane Irma inflicted. We understand you are anxious for your new itinerary and we are working to confirm port availability with our partners on the ground. We anticipate having this information to you within the next week as new ports of call are secured. We appreciate your patience during this time. CruisinNJ Posted October 12, 2017 #49 Share Posted October 12, 2017 The email today related to Gem cruises that depart 10/31 to 12/23 according to the email. I would guess that they are going to wait for a later date to see how the Islands come back - I guess when we see where we are going the later cruises will have some idea of what is definitely on vs. still questionable.
