I hope your house is OK. I don't think anyone here has that info. Carnival is the only one that can answer that. I hate to be the one to say it, but I will. This is why you need insurance on your cruises. If you had it, you would be covered and not have to think about it in these stressful times. Fingers crossed your home isn't affected greatly. I have family that live in Ft Myers and fear for their future as well.

Travel insurance covers for cancelation in these circumstances as well as job loss, illness of relative, etc. check your policies. If no travel insurance check the credit card you paid with, they may have emergency coverage for cancellations

I truly hope you and your family and all of your property are ok .

Having said that... We dont know for sure but the reason for insurance is always for 'extreme circumstances'. someone dying or getting very ill, someone losing their job, weather issues, transportation issues... you buy insurance for an extreme circumstance.

You have been here since 2000 and have over 1500 posts. I am convinced you knew insurance existed and that you could have protected yourself but you believed that you would not have an extreme circumstance and you rolled the dice. In this case, its probably (but not definite) that you will not get a refund or a future cruise credit if you can not make it

I am sorry for your situation and hope everything works out for you

I would certainly be more worried about the condition of my home than worrying that I will lose some money on my cruise. At my age, I always purchase travel insurance because under these extreme circumstances you definitely never know what could happen. Hopefully the storm continues to track further west, away from the mainland. If the eye traveled directly up the spine of the peninsula northbound the damage and destruction of the entire State Of Florida would have been catastrophic.

I have a vacation condo in Hallandale Beach, a mile from the Atlantic Ocean on the third floor of a five story building. I am concerned that damage will occur but I am currently in my main residence in Northern New Jersey. I pray that everyone in the affected area stays safe and hope that the damage is minimal. Buildings can be replaced and repaired, but lives can't. Have compassion for everyone dealing with this horrible hurricane that is effecting so many people.

Having lived in FL for many years and experiencing our share of hurricanes I can feel your pain. However, I can see where the cruise line might be coming from if they didn't give a refund or future cruise credit. What happens next winter when people in the north have a blizzard and can't fly out or have a snow laden tree fall on their house, etc, or during the spring tornado season in the Midwest and folks lose their house? If they (cruise lines, airlines, etc) give to one, they will have to give to all. This is what travel insurance is for.

I'm not trying to be mean or hard hearted, many of my friends and family are in FL suffering the same storm you are, but I can see the reality of the cruise lines situation here. All lines, not just Carnival.

For what it's worth, I pray you and or home stay safe an intact.

It make no sense as to why some of you state the obvious about insurance, that's now what the OP is asking!

I suggest that you call Carnival and talk to them and let them know that you are an evacuee and your current status of home residency is unknown at this time and don't know what you will be returning too. I would ask them what courses of action that you have and what you would like to do as for your current booked cruise.

ok, if the obvious as to what everyone has said has not been clear, I will respond

Typically without insurance, No, they will not

I responded to the OP's exact question (most people basically has said this too)

OP, I just looked at your original post and see you live in Cape Coral, Fla. and you've been a CC member since 2000 with 1500 posts. You are cruising in hurricane season and I'm just guessing that you DO have insurance. Hopefully you have the kind that will cover cancel for any reason. Again, good luck!:D:D

HUH? I don't see them asking about insurance now, but what will Carnival do, and various possible responses have been offered.

It makes LOADS of sense what the posters are "saying." It goes without saying she could call Carnival, etc., but she should also review her travel insurance policy and see what is covered. Carnival isn't obligated to do anything unless it cancels (or other events as reflected in the cruise contract). If the OP didn't take out insurance, she gambled and lost.
