nbhwarrior Posted September 11, 2017 #1 Share Posted September 11, 2017 Hi CC's Just got an email from RCCL cancelling a shore excursion that i had pre-booked, they did not give a specific reason but it could be several, they then suggested that i book another shore excursion, which is exactly the same as the one i had originally (bit with a different booking code), which is more expensive. I have challenged this, however awaiting a reply....... anyone expirienced this? and what was the outcome Thanks My thoughts and prayers are with those affected by the Harvey and Irma
SRF Posted September 11, 2017 #2 Share Posted September 11, 2017 Possibly the vendor upped the price to RCCL. Or they changed vendors.
mikebz Posted September 11, 2017 #3 Share Posted September 11, 2017 I had an excursion booked on St. Kitts for a tour around the island. My tour was cancelled due to "operational issues". I had booked this during one of their sales, and they suggested a tour that was about the same but more expensive. So, I booked a tour with a private tour company for about the same price. People that have taken this tour in the past have said it is better than the one offered through RCCL. So, the way I look at it, RCCL is just losing the business. Rare S.A.M.J.R. Posted September 11, 2017 #4 Share Posted September 11, 2017 Possibly the vendor upped the price to RCCL. Or they changed vendors. Still a poor way to handle it IMO. If the "new" excursion is identical, the price should be honored. If they don't, I think there's an argument for "bait and switch". If they've changed something on the excursion (stopping at a different beach or somewhat), I still think it's in poor taste but within their right. 39august Posted September 11, 2017 #5 Share Posted September 11, 2017 I have seen a couple of other posts on this very subject. It seems RCI is cancelling tours only to re-offer very similar tours for a higher price.
trev71 Posted September 11, 2017 #6 Share Posted September 11, 2017 Happened to us before too. No reason was given we just ended up booking another excursion very similar to the one that was cancelled
mlmbar Posted September 11, 2017 #7 Share Posted September 11, 2017 My St John On Your Own , which I purchased on "sale", was cancelled last week due to not meeting the minimal number of people. They then suggested St John on Your Own (different number) which was a more escorted tour and $10 more. I did rebook that one because it would have been my fifth trip to St Thomas and have always wanted to go to St John. It is a moot point now since tragically, both islands are destroyed. I am still waiting for the refund on my first tour and a cancellation of this second one.

If I remember correctly, your tour that was cancelled for lack of people booking it was six months in the future. The only time I have seen tours cancelled for that reason is once onboard. nbhwarrior Posted September 12, 2017 Author #10 Share Posted September 12, 2017 Thank you all for your input just to update you i eventually got a call back from RCCL (which i can understand with what is currently going on), firstly thay stated that that they had spoken to the shore excursion team (SET) and that they had to change tour providers and the new tour was more expensive and they are entitled to do this under T&C's BLAH BLAH BLAH, and that they fully understood my frustration, the tour by the way was the st john on your own tour i stated that i didnt think this was acceptable and i would like to raise it higher and that i felt that it was exactly the same tour (although allegedly a new provider) and that i felt RCCL should make the up the difference in price, could you send me the e-mails that had been sent, i was told they would be sent through the phone rings an hour later, same guy confirming that he had spoken to somone ekse higher up in SET and that they were willing to make up the difference, they are still saying the tour is different but i cannot see any difference at all
mlmbar Posted September 12, 2017 #11 Share Posted September 12, 2017 I think the difference is that on the first tour, we would just explore St John on our own . The second tour , the company takes us to Trunk Bay to spend three hours on the beach and to an archeological site. It is a moot point now since St John is decimated and I certainly don't expect to be able to go there on Oct
