CLE2CRUISE Posted September 25, 2017 Author #101 Share Posted September 25, 2017 For the your time dining, do you have to make resies for each night? How do we do that? Before cruise or when we get on ship? Is Giovanni's open for lunch? Can you just walk up for lunch? We didn't make reservations at all. We waited about 15 minutes the first time we went (last night) which is no big deal because you're in the Centrum and there is some form of entertainment there while you wait. They asked us about coming back the same time tonight so I think they like the reservations but of course you can do whatever you like. For Giovanni's we had reservations but i think you could get in easily without them. We did dinner but it wasn't anywhere near full and I doubt lunch would be either. Great food! shaun07 Posted September 25, 2017 #107 Share Posted September 25, 2017 Thanks:(. One more question, how close does the ship stay to the coast line as your sailing, are you able to see the coast?
CLE2CRUISE Posted September 25, 2017 Author #108 Share Posted September 25, 2017 Thanks:(. One more question, how close does the ship stay to the coast line as your sailing, are you able to see the coast? It goes pretty far out. No you can't really see anything until you're heading to port. I don't know if that's part of the rules about opening the casino and shops? Or maybe just a function of the size of the ship. But is you're going into and out of port there are nice views - as long as the weather is good. [emoji58] Sent from my iPhone using Forums
CLE2CRUISE Posted September 26, 2017 Author #109 Share Posted September 26, 2017 Morning folks! I just realized I didn't do much posting yesterday - besides answering questions. I have a bajillion photos I'll download from my dslr but here are some other phone ones from the past couple days. We were in Portland ME yesterday but John and I stayed on board to relax. It was nice to have so much of the ship. I used two pool chairs all day long! It was 77 and sunny most of the day. We're in Saint John today and may do the same thing. I'd like to check out the spa today. We watched some activities goofiness after dinner in the Centrum area last night but it wasn't really our thing. The Love and Marriage game show is tonight and I've heard that's pretty funny so maybe we'll try that out. But there is piano music in the Schooner and sipping cocktails while enjoying that sounds lovely. Suggestions? Watching movies, pool time with drinks and eating seem to be the theme of this cruise for us and I like that ! . This Dancing with the Stripes game show was pretty funny - I think because the staff was so into it. They really wanted to win! The poor contestants couldn't breath from dancing so hard! Lol at dinner last night (we've done the MDR the last two nights) I realized I love the shrimp cocktail, hate the French onion soup and the sliders are just OK (Johns been eating them every night though!) Oh and a word on the coffee on this ship - wow!! I have had terrific cappuccinos in the MDR, specialty restaurants and Cafe Lattetudes. Absolutely perfect. It's usually difficult to get the correct amount of foam to espresso but they have it down here! The pool bar. My hangout most of yesterday. Thanks for listening. Please let me know if there is anything else you want to know or see specifically. I'm sorry if I've missed answering anything - feel free to ask again. CLE2CRUISE Posted September 26, 2017 Author #110 Share Posted September 26, 2017 I wanted to also say something about the service on board. It's really been incredible. I'd read that that is a staple of the Grandeur and I can only say I agree wholeheartedly. Everywhere we go the staff are asking if we need anything and wishing pleasant greetings. The room steward and MDR waitstaff are especially helpful and always willing to serve. Paterno was was checking on me when I was in the room sick and seemed genuinely pleased when I got up well the next day. And in the dining room Joseph and Airy are a perfect team showing up right when we need anything! Plus they keep bringing as much as we want is all this lovely goodness. I am ignoring my thoughts about returning to the gym when I get home!!! Happy Vacation! . Fish and shrimp tempura. I was concerned it wouldn't stay crisp up from the kitchen but it was really quite good! It had a chile plum sauce and sautéed veggies. I ate every bite! John has these beef pappilettes filed with herbed cream cheese. I would have preferred them served cold, but they were still tasty room temp. Johns beef stroganoff. He loved the flavor and said the beef was tender but neither of us has ever seen it served with dill pickles before. The Royal Chocolate Cake and Boston cream pie. That pie was doused in rum! This was a warmed honey walnut tart. Omg so good! It tastes like warm baklava with ice cream on it. I'm sorry it was just there one night! Johns NY strip steak - which he said was almost as good as chops. There was a lot of flavor in it and it was cooked to perfect medium temperature. breezy_carol Posted September 26, 2017 #114 Share Posted September 26, 2017 Speaking of drinks.....I think I like this cruising stuff :DOoohhhh, someone is hooked on cruising! That happens after the first one. The Love and Marriage game show is tonight and I've heard that's pretty funny so maybe we'll try that out. But there is piano music in the Schooner and sipping cocktails while enjoying that sounds lovely. Suggestions?Go to the Love and Marriage Show. It is entertaining. You can go to the Schooner Bar after or anytime. I am really enjoying your report. Thank you for taking the time.

Oslo Posted September 26, 2017 #117 Share Posted September 26, 2017 Thanks for all the posts so far. It looks like you are slowly but surely becoming a cruiseaholic. Don't worry, though. There are ways to treat that by booking your next cruise onboard so you have another one to look forward to while you're on shore leave! You must go to the Love and Marriage game show tonight. It's a riot and the couples chosen to participate will become minor celebrities on the ship tomorrow morning. Was wondering if they would do the Dancing with the Stripes on a 9-day sailing. The Hubs participated on our 12-night cruise in March and came in second place. We think he should have won, but his Gangnam Style must not have been what the judges were looking for in the finals. On that note, any thoughts about "Locomotion" in the Centrum, and do you happen to know if they will still be onboard in October? Thanks again and have a great day in CA! CLE2CRUISE Posted September 26, 2017 Author #118 Share Posted September 26, 2017 I tried to get some pics of the offerings at Park Cafe but the reflections are awful. View at your own discretion. Lots of muffins, pastries and donuts. They will make breakfast sandwich or burrito for you. They Fresh fruit, which is good. The other things are just ok. Good enough if you're hungry and want a snack. John had the carrot raisin muffin - which he said was dry and neither raisiny or carroty lol. I had a muffin sandwich the other day that was similar. I want to come back and try a lunch sandwich. Hope they have soup too. Will let you know! *salute* Btw it's a lovely spot to sit and sip coffee in the morning. You can see a lot of the city/port you're at and the coffee is fresh! Sent from my iPhone using Forums
jneitzel1 Posted September 26, 2017 #119 Share Posted September 26, 2017 Please keep the photos coming...specifically anything from the MDR. We are about 158 days away from a 12 night tour, and will spend a large amount of time there. Thanks for your posts. Jeff

How fun to have been a participant!! What a great memory you must have. I have a great video of the gangham style from our show. The guy nailed it!! I wish I could figure out how to post videos. [emoji848] Locomotion is nice to sit and listen to. I'm not a huge fan of the female singer but actually she doesn't sing much. She often sits and plays a maraca. The drummer sings a lot of songs in Spanish but with a not very good Spanish accent. I'm being persnickety though. It's nice enough lounge music and they seem to have a keen ability to play songs that get people up and dancing. CLE2CRUISE Posted September 26, 2017 Author #123 Share Posted September 26, 2017 We haven't spent much time in the Windjammer, but here are some random shots. Admittedly, I am something of a food snob and didn't think anything I tried in there was especially good. There were definitely tons of options though and a great place to grab a sandwich or salad quickly. Also the staff here are really funny. They liked goofing around and dancing a lot. CLE2CRUISE Posted September 26, 2017 Author #124 Share Posted September 26, 2017 Sorry I didn't label. These are the salad bars and sandwich bars. They had a sandwich theme at lunch today so besides the ones you make yourself there were also several premade options including Italian and pb&j. And also this egg sandwich on my plate - which proved my last post wrong because I actually liked it a lot. Anyone really should be able to find something they like in here.
